Let's see though. In my eyes Russia is committing a mistake by supporting the Al-Assad regime.

Well, I am just saying that events in Syria will have close to no impact for Russia. They already have an insurgency in Caucasus while we speak and actual conflicts that border Caucasus.

Russia's security situation won't become more dangerous just because of Syria IMO.

No, nobody is interested in Syria turning into another Afghanistan but I don't think that this will happen. It's too centrally located in the ME and too many countries will prevent that from happening be it Jordan, Iraq, Israel, GCC and Turkey. US too.

Well lets hope it doesn't become another Libya/Afghanistan, but right now it's not looking too god. There are over 1500 Chechens fighting in Syria right now (putin wouldn't want them to become 'jobless'). And now even thousands of 'Turkistanis', meaning Central Asians, are also fighting in Syria. If they return, and start a rebellion in their secular dictatorship countries, that's really a gigantic encirclement of Russia. So I bet Putin has a vested interest in not allowing that to happen, or at least to postpone it.

Look throughout their history, when it suited them they backstabbed their friends. Recent example is Gadaffi, the Russkis were blocking the UN resolutions but at the last moment they dropped Gadaffi like a sack of potatoes and French fighter jets begun the campaign. Or the S300 case on Iran... etc

Everyone will "backstab" you (most people too in real life) if you are weak and it suits the interests of the backstabber. You need to take the best from every relationship. Ignore the bad and take what suits you.

Gaddafi was a lost caused What were the Russians supposed to do? Murder the Libyan people that rose up? Go against NATO? Libya is next door to the EU (Italy) and several military bases. Invading Libya is a lost cause for almost everyone too. That's why almost no ground troops were present if any when Gaddafi was removed.

Besides if we are brutally honest then Libya had no real interest for Russia. Did the Russians even have a single military base in Libya? Don't think so. Where they in need of Libya's natural resources? No, in fact Russia and Libya were competitors on this front.

I personally have no problem with Russia. I disagree with them on certain political fronts but that's about it. I feel great affinity for the Muslims of Caucasus for instance.

So improved relations would not hurt but I don't think that this will happen under Putin.

Anyway let's see what this is all about.

Arab-Russian forum adopts unified stance to resolve Arab issues
Khartoum, 4 Dec 2014 :The 2nd Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum Wednesday concluded its sessions in Sudan’s capital Khartoum and adopted a unified stance to resolve all the Arab issues through peaceful means.

The forum announced that the participants have reached a unified joint prospect on the importance of creating suitable circumstances so that all the peoples of the region could develop their countries based on the privacy of each state and traditions of each people, Xinhua reported.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ali Karti and Arab League (AL) Secretary General Nabil Elaraby held a joint press conference at the conclusion of the forum Wednesday.

“We had wide discussions on the topics and issues in the Middle East region and north Africa, and I’m glad to affirm that we have adopted a unified stance on necessity to resolve all the issues through peaceful means and via involving all the concerned parties on bases of respecting the United Nations Charter,” said Lavrov.

“We have attached a special concern to the importance of finding solutions to the Palestinian issue, where the failure to resolve this issue has become contributing to the instability in the region,” he added.

He further urged the international community to intensify the efforts to allow the Palestinian people to achieve their right in establishing an independent state that lives with the neighbouring countries.

Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ali Karti said the forum availed a wider space to Sudan’s issues and welcomed the initiative of the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for national dialogue.

He added that “the forum expressed concern over the unilateral economic sanctions been imposed on Sudan and reiterated its support for Sudan to find a settlement for its external debts.”

AL Secretary General Nabil Elaraby said “the forum was a good opportunity for the Arab countries and Russia to discuss vital issues such as Syria, Yemen and Libya, and particularly what is currently going on in Sudan and the desire of all the Arab countries to see Sudan surpasses this phase.”

The 2nd Arab-Russian Cooperation Forum started Wednesday in Sudanese capital of Khartoum with the participation of Russian and Arab foreign ministers and secretary general of the Arab League. It was also decided to that the Russian-Arab Business Council would act as the main tool for fulfilling the economic agenda of the Forum.

The Arab-Russia cooperation forum was established in December 2009 and held its first session in Moscow in 2013.

I personally know quite a few Arab-Russian couples and children of such marriages and I can see many similarities.

Arabs and Russians were never enemies either. We should have cordial ties. I know that you guys have cordial ties with a few Arab states/regimes such as Algeria, Egypt and Syria (what remains of that regime) but there is no reason why you could not expand.

China is the largest trading partner of the Arab world too. I personally am in favor of even greater relations with our Chinese friends.

I think that KSA has the biggest oil reserves in the world and those that are most easily extracted. Russia is blessed with dozens of natural resources though so I have no doubt that you will survive the sanctions and the devaluation of the ruble.
