Israel is influenced by US and France does pure business , it sells weapons to Pakistan . Will explain in detail if you disagree .

Why do we have to gauge our relations with who does what with Pakistan? Why can't it be business alone, Russia is special for us no denying that and the relations will only improve and not deteriorate.

This discussion is purely defense industry based, let's leave out sentiments and Geo poilitics out of it.

FIRSTLY the israelis came around 10 years ago with their advanced radars SAMs and jammers and electroincs warefare systems.

Now these last 4 years the USA has 4 of the last 5 BIG contracts. USA has nearly $20 billion in arms deals with india as we speak ... C17 globemasters, c130, P8 POSEDION, CHINNOKS & APACHES not to mention engines for the TEJAS...

infact USA have only lost one deal that was THE MMRCA to rafale.

I HERD the USA was ready to step in with an AIRCRAFT CARRIER 2 years ago if the GORSKHOV carrier came unstuck

People on here dont quite understand HOW BIG THE geoploitical change we are witnessing in india/russia/USA relations..

True, to some extent US is only doing what it thinks would be necessary if there is any future war in the region. With Pakistan out of the picture as a major ally in South Asia. It needs someone with the same or better force to keep a check in the South Asian/ Asian region. Lets not forget Pakistan and India are the only nuclear power in South Asia so for US to go in bad term with Pakistan it needs someone else to balance things out.

US is only helping India out of self interest and the huge market for its defense industries. So it is upto India to play the card right if it doesn't want to get involved in US's business and end up facing what Pakistan is facing today. Better get what we need and keep a distance from western nations.

Not really, the items bought by India are proven platforms that's been sold (except P8) to most of their allies - the actual fun will start if the US does joint developments with us or offers us their latest equipment.

FGFA = 10 to 20$ billions

Single contracts that are worth as much as all the US deals combined!

LUH deal, another big ticket deal where they were rejected and when you look at it more closely, C17 and C130 were not even competitions.

Everybody is getting a bit of the pie,and eventually India just hopes to have the optimum mix of equipment from all over.

Lets not forget Pakistan and India are the only nuclear power in South Asia so for US to go in bad term with Pakistan it needs someone else to balance things out.

But that's also why they can't abandon Pakistan and let them fully go on the Chinese side. A nuclear power that is an ally of China in such a crucial location to the Oil that the US needs, is the last what they. They have to keep Pakistan as an ally, especially, since they are a real ally of the US, while India isn't. We are non aligned and will remain so, which means the US can try to push us more on their side in regard to China, but can't count on us wrt to other defence issues (see Afghanistan, Libya, Syria...). So the US have to balance things between their relations to Pakistan.

Exactly, they need us much more than we need them today and that's a big chance for us that we have to take now, while our relations to Russia and Europe are way deeper and older.

True, but not by changing the dependence from one seller to another, we have to go beyond the normal buyer - seller relation and that's what Russia, Europe and France offer us, while the US are still hesitant to do the same. They might have loosened their restrictions and export policies, but they are still the worst for our forces from the operational term. Adding lower numbers of specialised US arms and techs then is the best way to go, since we can increase our capablilty, while not beeing dependent on them during war times.
