Russia All set to lose the Indian defense market

Indian Russian friendship is not going anywhere. it is the strongest alliance in the world. so chillx and have fun. India and Russia trust each other like a child would trust his mother - unquestioned and total

The news that USA has for the 4th time in 2 years tipped Russia to a BIG indian military contract is no surprise

The amricans have no one

C17 globemasters
C130 transports
Apache 3 guns ships
P8 posedions
And engines for LCA TEJAS

and now above

THE INDIANS are dropping the russians

WHY ???????/

iTS BELIEVED even the FGFA will be russian only in airframe and engines

with the weapons radar and ECCM all being indian or MMRCA/israeli

I think the RUSSIANS will lose the massive indianm market now

Since when India, Israel or France produce 5th generation radars and avionics ?

THE INDIANS are dropping the russians

WHY ???????...
...I think the RUSSIANS will lose the massive indianm market now

Please get your facts right!

12 x C130 + 12 x P8I + 10 x C17 => 34 aircraft vs 45 x MTA + 2 x A50 => 47 advantage Russia
(If the news is true) 15 x Ch47 + 22 AH64 =>37 helicopter vs more than 130 x Mi 17 advantage Russia
99 x engines for LCA vs 120 x RD33-3 series advantage Russia
numbers of Javelin ATGMs vs Konkurs ATGMs know so far advantage Russia
0 US fighters vs 450+ Mig 29K, MKI, FGFA ordered so far advantage Russia
0 US tanks vs around 800+ T90s inducted, more on order advantage Russia
Number of Harpoon missiles vs nubers of Brahmos or Klub missiles advantage Russia

And the list goes on and on, while I didn't add the older Russian stuff we have as well, so where do you see us dropping Russia? We aren't!
What we do is, to get less dependent on them, not buy choosing the US as a supplier and be dependent on them as well, but by beeing more involved in Russian procurments, via ToT, JVs and most of all, via co-developments! The more involvement we have, the less vulnerable are we for cost increases, lack of spare supply, or delays, while we still get the best that Russia has on offer, without any restrictions and with them as a reliable partner during war times!

All we do wrt to the US is, using the current favourable situation with them, to add capabilities and alternatives in limited numbers and certain roles, that the Russians can't offer us, but they loose the big procurements like MMRCA or LUH without even beeing shortlisted!

Since when India, Israel or France produce 5th generation radars and avionics ?

India doesn't but SPECTRA for example is in service for nearly 10 years now and offers similar passive detection, targeting, or jamming capabilities as the EW systems in US stealth fighters. Israel is no 1 when it comes to avionics, which is why the US are working so closely with them, in this or the missile fields for example. Python V is a so called 5th gen missile, just like MICA or AIM9X are and the Israelis started to develop the NG of BVR missiles as well, while the Europeans already have it.
When you compare the small budgets Israeli or European defence industry has for developments, they are doing more than well compared to the US. It's a mistake to belive that the one that pays the most for defence, automatically has the best arms and techs as well.

In specialized/tactical weapons, russians are loosing big since they have been notoriously dismissive about spares/support concerns of Indian military.

For special roles, the machines always have to be "well oiled" which entails certitude, the area in which russia sucks !!

Mr. Sancho sir,
The Russians have been giving/selling some tech to us which are not generally avalable, how do you think the Russians are going to react when it comes to those requirements?

US cannot compensate for Russia for lack of trust - France and Israel can to an extent, India has started building its own systems again with outside help, Our R&D and own developments will be considerable in a decades time. These external purchases coming with limited TOT will help to some extent. You are right there is considerable problems in most of the programs and the reasons are in Russia.

I hope in the next one year we sort it out between ourselves or else the distance between us will increase considerably.

This does not mean that India and Russia will cease to be friends.

We will need to find other alternative areas of cooperation to keep the relationship going. For e.g. Gazprom has signed a multi billion Gas supply contract with India as a first. Glasnoss and the joint Mars exploration is one such.
The freindship had ceased since the collapse of the Soviet union, what both side carri foward is military transaction only. Russian have to face the huge challenge USA brings, Indian is not happy with those rip off and deplay.......

You really are naive in geopolitics. Ask around in your country why are some missile units in Russia put on alert stage whenever there is any tension on India's borders..

news a week bacK.

The new contracts in pipeline, some of which may be inked during President Vladimir Putin's visit here next month, will again reassert Russia's position as India's largest arms supplier by far despite countries like the US, Israel and France also making deep inroads into the lucrative Indian market. India will spend close to $50 billion on them over the next two decades.

The contracts range from an additional 42 new Sukhoi-30MKIs to add to the 230 of them already contracted, at an overall cost upwards of $12 billion, as well as another 71 Mi-17 V5 helicopters after the initial induction of 80 of these armed helicopters for $1.34 billion.

Then, apart from the project to develop a "new-generation" hypersonic BrahMos cruise missile after the supersonic version being inducted in the Indian armed forces, India and Russia are poised to seal the full final design/R&D phase contract for development of the stealth fifth-generation fighter aircraft.

The R&D contract is pegged at $11 billion, with the two countries chipping in with $5.5 billion each. Each of this 5th Gen fighter - India hopes to induct 200 to 250 of them from 2022 onwards - will cost at least $100 million over that.

India is spending another $2 billion to induct 45 Russian MiG-29K naval fighters to operate from the decks of Vikramaditya and the indigenous aircraft carrier

Have we cancelled all the orders???/ :what:

In your dream only....where is your friend in 1962?

Russia won't shoot a damn missile to china for India. You should get your brain checked ASAP. Delusional ones, you got no treaty with Russia to defend each other if under attack. Russia is interested in your money, never Indian its own. They will never provide soft loan to you as we provide Pakistan.see?

Thats why looking into Pakistan and others.

Pakistan's defence budget is 6 billion, India's defence budget is 42 billion. You can see the difference. It would be impossible for Pakistan to look towards Russia for weapons because that mean Pakistan will have to reduce weapon import from China considerably.

In your dream only....where is your friend in 1962?

Check the facts,we didn't favour Russia or USA that time. We are neutral that time. After the treaty, they were there to help us,during 1971 Indo-pak war they increase their troops near china border. Ask them why?
