Reuters: Germany to buy 60 Chinook helicopters

Exactly, MANPADS are an emerging threat for troop transport helicopters.
A well place hit would have brought down ANY chopper, not just Chinook.

The question is not whether or not we should make helicopter immune to MANPAD fire, the question is rather how do you eliminate that threat before you went in.

The focus should be how you can clean the LZ before moving in. Enemy suppression is the key and there are probably no one does that better than US Army Aviation.

much less maneuverable? says who? do you even know the meaning of the word maneuverable?
Pretty obvious the person you talk to know nothing about Military......

He once ask why we do not see "Battalion" size battle in Ukraine........when the Russian base unit is "Battalion Tactical Group"

Designed and manufactured half a century ago when anti chopper weapons were minimal and backward, fast forward 50 years to present, this kind of legacy weapons can no longer find a suitable place in today's warfare.

There's a saying at my work that if you don't have a better solution there is no use standing up and saying somebody else's solution sucks.

Hopefully future VTOL aircraft (like the V-280 Valor) ceiling heights will make troops less vulnerable to manpads.
