Kolkata police believe that along with the Pakistan cricket team, both Bangladesh and Afghanistan cricket team could be the target of attack by some religious political organizations during the World T20, according to reports.
Bangladesh will be mainly based in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh during the qualifying group matches when the tournament starts next month. But if they can qualify for the Super 10 stages then they have to play a couple of matches in Kolkata.
It has been learnt that the Kolkata Police has taken the security issue of the visiting cricket teams very seriously with a strict safety protocol. All the players of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan will stay at the same hotel in Kolkata for which the Kolkata Police have already planned strong security methods.
The security of teams in sub-continent is becoming a serious issue day by day with many of these deterring incidents coming up in the recent times.
Earlier this year the Cricket Australia (CA) refused to send their Under-19 team to Bangladesh to compete in the ICC Under-19 World Cup amid security issues. The Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked by terrorist in Pakistan in 2009 and since then Pakistan has hosted only Zimbabwe among other countries.
Earlier this week the much-awaited India-Pakistan World T20 clash which was scheduled in Dharamsala went into jeopardy for ex-servicemen’s protest in Shimla. The Ex-servicemen of Indian Army in Shimla have asked BCCI to reconsider the match, keeping in view the sentiments of the families of martyrs and patriots.
The sixth edition of the ICC World T20 is scheduled to be held in India from 8 March to 3 April. And it is to be seen what security measures Kolkata Police takes to keep the peace.
