RC400 and MBDA MICA approved for JF-17

^ So it is safe to say that AIM-120C5 will only be used in the F-16s? French MICA will be used in JF-17 and J-10?

but sir with SD10 present for JF17 and the MICA not being much superior to SD10 in flight specs do you think there was a great need for this sort of deal. also keep in mind that we can not claim RC400 to be a great improvement to already present KLJ radars until we know its specs!!!
i hope it have nothing to do with our leaders individual intrest and will actually yeild something beneficial for PAF...

Airborne Fire Control Radar (FCR).

Description
The Radar Compact (RC) RC 400 is a modular, lightweight, compact, multimission radar. The radar has been designed for a wide range of fighters and advanced training aircraft. RC 400 technology is derived from the RDY-2 radar (see separate entry), which equips the Mirage 2000-5. The baseline architecture comprises four Line-Replaceable Units (LRUs): a monopulse flat slotted array antenna equipped with IFF dipoles, a 2-channel, wide dynamic range exciter/receiver, an 8-12 GHz transmitter unit and a fully programmable signal and data processing unit. This configuration can be reconfigured as required to fit the nose of most aircraft types and only requires non-filtered air-cooling. Several antenna options are available, based on a low inertia, flat slotted-plate design, with very low side lobes.The RC 400 design features track-while-scan, smart automatic management of scanning and target prioritisation. This provides accurate, multiple fire-and-forget capability, together with datalink requirements for missile control. The radar utilises high-, medium- and low-PRFs to optimise performance in all Beyond Visual Range (BVR) interception missions, as well as combat phases of operation. Within a given mode, the PRF is automatically managed from bar to bar, with respect to attack geometry.The RC 400 offers the following operational capabilities:Air-to-air: all-aspect look up/look down detection; automatic management of low-, medium- and high-PRFs; TWS automatic lock-on; simultaneous multitarget engagements; IFFAir-to-ground: improved ground mapping with azimuth beam compression; Doppler beam sharpening; ranging; optional SAR high-resolution mapping; contour mapping for low-altitude penetration; surface MTI and TWS trackAir-to-sea: track-while-scan on two targets; sea target calibration.

The french are notoriously very expensive when selling arms.

I use the example of a mirage 2000H upgrade to dash 9 to be $40m a plane.
And rafael cost of over $100m each fuly loaded.

I realise that RC400 is not the best that france has but it intergration to a Eastern chinease fighter will not be cheap.

JF Thunder biggest strength is its so cheap at just $15m each. BARGIN.

Finally it may be a silly question but why are PAF not looking for AESA RADAR in stead.

Your neighbour already fields a PESA radar which is superior to RC400 MSA radar

And will induct AESA radars ibris on MKI upgrade from 2011 onwards

They will almost certainly induct AESA with MMRCA
And AESA ELTA520 for LCA MK2

This news came 2 years back and nothing has been confirmed uptill now, and the talk by the PAF Chief about getting an AESA radar means that this idea has been dropped long time ago. Rather may be PAF looks into the radars by the Italian firm from which we got the Grifo series. I believe they have something based on AESA technology, Vixen series if am not wrong. So lets see what happens in the future.

Well rumors of a Chinese AESA radar on J-10B are there as the nose cone is different then then A variant, suggesting either a PESA radar or an AESA one.

For first 36, my guess would be it would be all Chinese, and if PAF seems satisfied, it may stick to it for the next batch too, or else they will look for a western AESA radar.

And as for JF-17, i believe we might see something being offered from the Italian firm who have helped us in past also with Grifo series radars, the recent ToT for Falco UAV and other stuff.

As the Italian firm would not like to let go such a big order for radars from their hands from one of their most consistent customer.
 
I suggested it earlier and i think PAF wud be wise to go for AESA radar if they are going to move away from the KLJ chinease radar.

With IAF probably having an all AESA equipped Air force on 450+
SU30MKI/MMRCA/LCA by 2020 it just makes more sense and better planning long term.

Selex-Galileo is developing a series of new AESA radars, one of them, the Vixen-750 is aimed for fighter aircraft such as JF-17.

But , anyway let me tell you guys my personal choice of an AESA radar for JF-17 Thunder Block II.
