As being defence enthusiast. I think on various matters. One thing which I have recently thought about is that we have really good Para Military Forces. Most likely Punjab Rangers, and Sindh Rangers, and FC KPK, and Baluchistan, and few others combined are around 350000, if not more. But I think they are not being used with their full potential. Not only they lack good medium tanks and IFV and helicopters. They also have only LCB units. These Para Military guys are really fit. Should we not try to establish and raise a new unit of SSG may be called SSG Para or any other name can be chosen which is trained like SSG or SSGN or SSW of Pakistani Armed Forces. We can easily raise 4000 to 6000 of these soldiers in a decade or two.

These forces already have got their own SoF's trained in COIN,CT,Direct Action,VIP security,HVT ops and reconnaissance.
Punjab Rangers has Ranger Commando Wing,Sindh Rangers maintains Rangers Anti Terrorist Battalions,FC Balochistan has Special Operation Wing and FC KPK has it's own Special Operation Group.
These units have been operating for years and are battle hardened.Major difference between them and our other SoF is that, they are not trained for UW,Covert,Airborne and Seaborne missions.Their Q-Course is around 6 months long and after that, time to time they go through refresher and different proffesional course.

I see a separate Para Military guys to be called Para Troopers. However, SSG SSGN SSW have their own set of training that includes Para and depending upon the doctrine and need of force for Ops as such. It may be called that when you have the luxury, you can go for a totally different force but then again, special operations units are trained in all areas including Para so whenever needed, any of the operators will be available to do the job. Just saying.

Pak Army has gotten very vast experienced. We just need to channelize it, share and teach new recruits from it and create a model that actually promotes improvision at tactical level as SOP. We don't have the funds to incoporate all new ideas but we can atleast make space for existing infrastructure and manpower to flex themselves according to the situation. Unconventional warfare forced us to get flexible then the rigid traditional fighting doctrine.

I also believe that due to WoT, our doctrine has shifted a lot of focus from conventional warfare to asymetric warfare. We should have a parallel force dedicated for COIN while the army and military continue to serve in traditional role.

There should not be the typical one for all force. The military usually trains its manpower in all types of terrain, threats, roles so it can promptly fit in when deployed for any type of mission in war. But this terrorism is a different type of threat. We need to sgregate the role of COIN and other traditional military operations.

A new force which will have people from police, para-military and army permanently posted (not rotated back after 2-3 years) to COIN Force both in rural and urban areas. Some assets from military will also need to be transfered to this new standing force. They will work independently from the military.

Although, this will reduce the standing army in quantity, it will help better manage the formations, better equip them, and free them from COIN role. They will become better trained and efficient by solely focusing on conventional operations. In 21st Century, numbers do matter but quality, eqiupment and optimization matters more.

The COIN force can additionally be used as reserve force during war. They would be trained in gurellia warfare so in case our borders are breached, they will ambush the invading army in cities etc if the situation gets desperate.

Although, nobody has incoprated this idea of a complete separate and independent COIN force, it does not mean Pakistan can't pioneer it. It has it advantages and disadvantages but it does sound interesting.

Need your opinion guys...

Pakistan Federal Police, that does counter terrorism and warrant enforcement and quick deployment in emergencies nationwide

Hand over FC Balochistan to Gen (R) Tariq Khan and see what happens to these buffoons within months. It is not about the equipment, it is about tactics. If you want to beat militants, you have to fight like them.
Militants are most afraid of SSG after Cobra Helicopters. They used to call them Pagals. That is why I am suggesting that we can raise a new SSG type force from within our Para Military Forces.

I know they have their units. But all those units are similar to Light Commando Battaltion of Pakistan Army. Not one of them matches, or have same training as SSG, or SSGN, or SSW. I am suggesting to raise a new SSG from within our Para Military Forces. Call them what ever you want. Just raise a new Special Forces unit like SSG. @The Eagle

Police and FC should be upgraded so that they can independently handle the restive areas of Former FATA and Baluchistan this would help army focus on their core job and it will demoralize militants in those areas.
The training and upgradation of these two forces should never stop.

There are 2 factors that decide the outcome of a COIN campaign.

1: Who has the initiative, who attacks first.

2: Casualty count, a numbers game.

i was thinking about a joint special operations command of all military paramilitary units all over pakistan.
