Rafale snag in UAE bid

Dassault¡¯s bid to secure a deal with the United Arab Emirates to sell up to 60 Rafale fighters may come unstuck over the missile it needs to carry.The report says that the United Arab Emirates Air Force & Air Defence (UAE AF&AD) is requiring the Rafale SLAM ER/2 missile instead of the offered MBDA AM-39.
SLAM ER is a day and night, all-weather, over-the-horizon precision strike missile capable of hitting stationary or moving targets on land or at sea with a range of more than 150 nautical miles ¨C MBDA¡¯s AM-39 is an updated version of the French Exocet anti-ship missile, but only has a range of 70km, or about 40 nautical miles. The UPI report says that the UAE¡¯s military wants missiles capable of reaching targets deep inside Iran.

i think what ever happens the UAE should not buy the expensive (even to maintain) Rafeal from france as they have bought new Mirage-2000-9 as well as upgraded the older Mirages-2000s to 2000-9 standards, which they have about 63-68 of these along with new F-16E/F Block-60 Super Vipers. So they should only look to procure AEW&C from Sweden or U.S and some new advance weapons from France & U.S.

The semiofficial Mehr News Agency in Iran reports that Emirati President Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan is expected to visit Tehran "in the near future" to discuss the Persian Gulf islands of Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunb. Their conflict is complicated by Saudi Arabia and USA hostility to Iran and their encouragement of UAE to to take extremist positions on this dispute. Hopefully they will reach a solution.

The Arab nations are procuring weapons like idiots - the west stirs the pot and then sit back and enjoy the cash-flow from the arms sales.

They need to build up their OWN industry.........It's one of the things that makes me proud of Pakistan actually, at least we are trying despite the financial difficulties - A problem the Arab nations shouldn't have!

I think they should buy every expensive toy they can until their funds dry out and they cant even grow dates or raise camels to support their country. The soon they run out of their oil cash the better for the region.

They wont be able to export their Jihadi Shiekhs to us anymore and would eventually come at par with the living standards of their Palestinians brothers in the Gaza strip. Wont that be nice? All Arabs are equal aren’t they?

Iran have MRBM and IRBM Missiles, UAE Should Acquired some sort of good ABM..instead of Rafale , f 15 SE and terminator . Or may be they can co-develop a ballastic missile which can targate Iran's various millitary instalations.
