PTI changes date of Islamabad protest

Had it not been for UK, there would be absolutely no checks and balances in this kingdom of Nawaz and Zardari.

And why is it that people moan when IK does dharnas and threatens blockages? Look at 88 onwards and see what BB and NS were doing each time in opposition!! What about the movement against Bhutto!

As for IK's language, Shahbaz has been spewing a lot worse.

I think the time and resources would be much better spent on campaigning for the next elections.

I support PTI all the way but we know that Nawaz will not let go of power, so whats the point in marching?

Even in the next elections PTI does not stand a chance, the system is too corrupt, everyone is bought, corruption is rampant and will only get worse because greed never ends.

Well most people don't find a company when they plan to commit suicide...

Last time he waged a war against state institutuons but couldn't capture due to lack of support by the people and the Army. I remember 50 or so people were killed in K-P that night due to floods and their CM was busy dancing on the stage showing no signs of interest for his people and assuming the government is likely to be sent home anytime soon

Not sure if they have better strategy and may use weapons or it may be another toothless coup by PTI once again.

I am in favour of routing out corrupt leaders but not on the basis of anarchy

Sir, this is exactly how many of us felt the first time this happen, I and other members who had supported PTI in 2013, parted ways from them. In short, their aims though admirable can't justify their means, which include bringing about political instability, upheaval of the system rather than reform, and all while they do not have the popular support for such brazen actions.

Can PTI win an election ?

It's unlikely. PTI will claim many things about corruption and vote rigging as reason for their inability to win elections. If you ask me, to go from nothing to where they are now in opposition is a massive victory. But they are unlikely to ever be able to form a government IMHO.

I state the reasons for this here and here.

PTI's popularity won't have changed much, if not slightly dipped, but the opposition factor is a boost. The real problem that is killing PTI's chances of ever forming a government is that their votes are scattered through constituencies, so in a First Past the Post system (FPTP), they'll lose.

Eg. if party x, y and z are running for elections in FPTP system. If their average vote share is 10% for x, 35% for y and 55% for z. Party z will likely form government and y opposition. But in terms of seats, party x might not have 10% seats, they may well have zero seats. If in a constituency smaller parties get 30-40% of the vote, but lose the constituency, then that vote isn't represented at all.

PTI has similar problems, they have support throughout the country, with varying intensity, lots of it in KPK, lots in some parts of Punjab, some support in Balochistan even and Sindh, and for a while in Karachi too. But they don't have enough concentrated support in enough constituencies, so that their voters who might represent 20% of all votes in constituencies they've lost translate to zero seats in NA. This is evident as in 2013, PTI got 17% of the vote share and only 10% of the seats (35 out of 342). Whereas the sitting government, PMLN, managed to form government with only 32.77% of the vote share and 48% of the seats (166 out of 342). That's because PTI's vote is spread over many constituencies whereas PMLN's is concentrated, and FPTP rewards regional parties with heartlands like PMLN.

If PTI wants a chance of winning, it should campaign hard in marginal constituencies, go after weak seats outside of Punjab and marginals within. Serious thought needs to be given to the system if they want any chance of being successful. It seems there isn't much effort in this direction, more on protests, and shouting about the government, which won't help them. It makes one wonder whether there's a single election strategist within the PTI's ranks.

I might publish a full article on this sometime, because there's more to it, and I can only explain this so well in condensed form.

Aren't Pakistani elections just like less than 2 years away? Then why the violence and unrest and coupes? If these people are really "corrupt", instead of getting people killed, why not educate people peacefully, for the remainder of the time so one gets more public support (remember, all violence instigators have become a part of the history in really bad terms).

IK had the caliber that shook the earth of Noonians... but his "randi-rouna" and his idiotic decisions are making people tired now..

He couldn't hold his fame and support he got.. he lacks the sense of a politician and he would suffer it.

I disgree.you cant do politics in Pakistan if you dont do "randi-rouna".People only listen when a leaders do randi rouna thats how politics is in this part of the world.

Islamabad dharna/march/jalsa fundraising could be a cover-up for funds coming in from investor group. PTI has already taken a stay order from Islamabad HC over default in submitting the financial returns to ECP.

@Aether Sir don't you think comitting suicide is much better than killing innocent?. Let be honest your location is UK why do you stay their why not live in Pakistan ?. My guess is better life, jobs, rights etc and its your right to choose whats best for you. Dont you think every Pakistani deserves this aswell. .But have you realized one thing that all the promise N-league made to the people they have miserably failed to deliver
1>. where is the money that Zardari stole?
2>. When did his accountability happened?
3>. six month and then no load shedding?
4>. we will stop begging for loans from IMF and World Bank?
5>. Mushraf would go through trail for his sins?
the list goes on? NS and zardari are both the same thing. Panama, Model town, Election rigging and failed promises are the few things that this world be remembered?

no true . it was due to heavy rains and it started the day khattak arrived in Islamabad.
it is not a coup . they are demanding justice and state or institution is not providing them . so they are exerting pressure on government to start investigation on panama issue .

Why PTI not calling for strike, when they claiming that People of Pakistan are with them??
they have their own strategy . the aim is to government to start investigation their corruption. Lockdown will put more pressure on government ,

@DJ_Viper IK has educated them a lot of time on National Television but they are too stubborn to understand. You can see some of them expressing useless hatred against IK in this thread also. Shameful !!!!!

India Encroaching Pakistan’s Water Rights While Rulers Busy Playing Power Games: Moonis Elahi

indus5.jpg

The country is going through the worst dry spell in ages with a severe agricultural drought predicted six months down but the rulers unbothered by the imminent catastrophe are busy whetting their appetite for power. Had there been an iota of concern for the 170 million water starved Pakistanis and millions of acres of water deficient agricultural land the rulers would have long stopped their power games and in fight and chalked out an emergent water management strategy instead. But by looking the other way they have shown where their true interests lie. These views were expressed by the senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League, Moonis Elahi while talking in Lahore yesterday with a group of agriculturists belonging to Central Punjab. In the meeting, Moonis Elahi strongly condemned the present rulers’ unforgivable failure to prevent India from encroaching on Pakistan’s water rights.

He blamed the PPP Government at the centre and the N League Government of Punjab for deliberately letting India get away with its blatant violations of the Indus Basin Treaty. The main leaders of both the current ruling parties were frequently going abroad on highly expensive official trips but not once did they draw the global attention towards India’s criminal violations of Pakistan’s water rights, said Moonis Elahi. He said that after taking Punjab to the verge of financial bankruptcy the incompetent N League Government was now pushing the once food rich province towards an acute agricultural disaster. The people will never forgive the current rulers for their criminal negligence and total incompetence in handling the water issue, he said.

Moonis Elahi strongly emphasized the need for quick thinking and action which he thought the current rulers were incapable of undertaking. To avert the devastations of an imminent agricultural disaster a sensible and far-sighted government would have by now announced several pro-farmer steps including announcement of a Water Emergency, exemption from load shedding and introduction of highly subsidized electricity and diesel rates for the wheat, sugarcane, maize and cotton farmers of the country, Moonis Elahi pointed out.

So if IK wants to do the same things that BB and NS have done previously, then how is he any better than that scum?

IK is protesting on the roads, and his reasons are 100% valid. Listen to his message. He has been consistent all 20yrs of his political life. And after knocking on all doors, he's come on the roads. And even now the delay is to give SC more time on the case against NS.

And he's not like the scum NS. IK hasn't charged on the SC. So far, he's done everything that is perfectly acceptable in a democracy.

Iceland constitution was torn apart and rewritten and the movement started with one alone man. The message IK has for the public is his strongest point and no one can dispute that. He hasn't become the second highest vote taker for nothing! It's that message.
