Given the fact that most Pakistanis in the UK hail from the Mirpur/Kotli regions of AJK, an airport should have been build there a long time ago to facilitate travel between UK-AJK for them. Why is this government 40 years late at everything...

Airport is better than this bus project.

MIRPUR: Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) announced that its Mirpur city will directly be linked by road with the United Kingdom through a direct bus service between the city and Birmingham, by the beginning of 2012.

The new road route was disclosed by AJK Transport Minister Tahir Khokher while addressing a news conference at the Kashmir Press Club here on Sunday.

Khokher said that the proposed Mirpur-Birmingham bus service would be plied from Mirpur – which has a significant population of UK-based Kashmiri expatriates – via Quetta and Tehran (Iran) to the UK.

AJK’s transport authorities are hoping that the project will facilitate over 0.70 million Britain-based Kashmiri expatriates hailing from this district. Khokher said that at the first leg of the proposed plan is to be executed by March next year. To this end, four buses of international standard will be plied on the Mirpur-Birmingham route.

The minister revealed that the fare of the proposed Mirpur-Birmingham international bus service will be around Rs20,000 per passenger.

Road safety

He announced that up-to-date mechanism was being devised, coupled with the required legislation by the AJK Legislative Assembly, in order to discourage the violation of traffic rules and regulations.

He said that new transport policy will be announced during the next session of the AJK Legislative Assembly.

He added that the new transport policy will envisage zero tolerance for over-loading and overcharging of fares in the public transport.

^^^^^ How long would such a massive road link like Mirpur-Birmingham take to travel. It seems really unrealistic now. The
journey includes whole of ME and the whole of Europe before crossing the English channel.

Yes the road link is unrealistic.

Mirpur really needs an airport. Most of the Pakistani population in UK are from Mirpur, Azad Kashmir.

Will it be International Airport or People have to go via Islamabad???

What type of news is that. So how will people travel in a Bus for a 7-10 days journey without Bed to sleep in the night(semi-sleeper is uncomfortable) or Bathrooms. Trains may seen feasible(like Trans-Siberian Railways) but how can anyone think of Bus journey.

HAHA. Yes the bus journey would be too inconvenient. The most convenient travel is by air and then by train.

There is no need for the Airport at any part of Pakistan. We are short on Money! That money needs to be switched channeled towards Electricity-Dams; Needs of the Hour..

A large number of population is out there that travels all across Pakistan. If our Railway Assets-Department was state of the Art. Pakistan would have been earning an astounding % of Revenue. Brains are no where to be found! Atleast 5 Crore people are potential Travelers on daily-monthly basis..
