The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) threatened France in a statement citing the arrest of a senior PKK member by the state, an agency known to be closely linked to the PKK reported on Thursday.

The statement called on the French state to give up its “hostile policy” against the Kurdish people, the Fırat news agency reported.

“If not, the Kurdistan freedom movement and the Kurdish people will act against the interests of the country,” the statement read.

A French court recently arrested Adem Uzun, a member of the executive council of the Kurdish National Congress (Kongra-Gel), as part of an investigation into the illegal activities of the PKK in France.

Uzun was accused of providing arms for the terrorist organization, based in northern Iraq, French media reports said.

France, which classified the PKK as a terrorist organization in 1993, has been carrying out operations against institutions and individuals known to be closely linked to the terrorist group since 2007.

Police detained the alleged leader and another man in Paris on Saturday, while two others were detained Sunday in the northwestern communes of Evron and Saint-Ouen-l'Aumone.

The arrests were part of an investigation into terrorism financing and association with a terrorist group that was launched in July, the judicial sources said.

A source close to the case said investigators were probing whether the detained PKK members had been trying to obtain weapons of war.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organisation by Turkey and by much of the international community, took up arms in Kurdish-majority southeastern Turkey in 1984, sparking a conflict that has claimed some 45,000 lives.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused France and Germany late last month of obstructing Ankara's fight against the PKK.

"On the contrary, they are letting the terrorist chiefs freely circulate in their countries," he told the private NTV television network.
