INS Vikramaditya is likely to come to Anil Ambani-owned Pipavav shipyard for firstrefit early next year after fleet review by Indian Navy, said sources in the know of the development.

Details of all the repairs required to be carried out %at Pipavav have been received by Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering (PDOE) and a budgetary quote is being prepared, according to sources.

“Indian Navy is planning first refit immediately after the scheduled fleet review in February 2016. Refit is expected to take four months. This is part of unfolding turnaround story for Pipavav ever since it was taken over by Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group,” said the source quoted earlier.
Pipavav was earlier selected by Zvyozdochka Shipyard of Russia for the refit of EKM 877 submarines in India. It is expected that the potential refit of 24 submarines will generate business worth Rs 30,000 crore for the shipyard. Pipavav is also reported to have been selected by United Shipbuilding Company of Russia for manufacturing of four Talwar class frigatesy. Selection of Pipavav for both the projects was made after independent survey of various

shipyards in the country, both in the public and private sector.

“With second largest dry dock in the world and largest in the country, selection for refit of aircraft carrier by the Indian Navy was an easy choice,” said the source.

This will also position Pipavav ahead of all other shipyards in the country for the next aircraft carrier to be built in India at cost of over Rs 60,000 crore. PDOE shares closed up marginally at Rs 62 in a weak Mumbai market on Monday.

crony capitalism in full display. 4 months before refit deal Anil Ambani suddenly buys Pipavav. Obviously modi has told him that he'll all these orders.

Whats wrong in it.........only pipav and Cochin have got such massive area and expertise, Cochin has already got its hands full, so do we send these naval ship to Russia or other country just to spite the Ambanis. Everybody is getting bonker day by day:hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

More like Ambani saw that "Make in India" was going to pay off in the defence realm and is looking to cash in:

GE Aviation and India's Mahindra Aerospace to Collaborate on Manufacturing Opportunities... -- LE BOURGET, Paris, June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

Mahindra Aerospace signs multi-million dollar deal with Airbus

The crony capitalism notion doesn't make much sense in this deal, the refit will be worth peanuts (relatively).

That's not how this works. Pipavav was founded by people who saw the potential and built it into a facility of capacity which would give huge results. And...just before said mega contracts started flowing suddenly someone called ANil Ambani with no background in defence gets it? He's in entertainment and mobile serives. Not like Mahindra which have made long term investments, R&D and infrastructure for decades. This is most definitely arm-twisting behind the scenes done by them (using, of course govt. to pressure). This is just the beginning of a loooong pipeline of extremely profitable deals including, possibly an aircraft carrier as a whole.

Well 200 crores is not peanuts
Considering the fact, that Navy will service the ship after every 2 year of operation and Viki will get 2 major refits in its lifetime,
Ambanis could be looking at 5000-6000 crores over a period of 30 years
