KARACHI:
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) governing body decided against approving the ‘Big Three’ proposal, expressing ‘serious concerns’ on the model prepared by India, England and Australia cricket bodies.

With the situation of indecision prevailing, the reservations shown by the PCB governors cannot be considered an outright rejection of the proposal by the cricketing body.

It was an intensive meeting at the PCB headquarters in Lahore on Monday that lasted for over five hours as the proposed changes to the International Cricket Council (ICC) were discussed at length.

“The board members deliberated and expressed serious concerns on the model proposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), England and Wales Cricket Broad (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA),” said the PCB media release following the meeting. “It was found that the proposal was neither in line with principle of equity nor in the interest of cricket.

“The Board authorised PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf and Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmad to engage with other Board members to find common ground and take other requisite remedial measures in the interest of Pakistan.”

‘Meeting Patron significant’

Ashraf, who chaired the meeting, later told the press that he would like to meet PCB Patron Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif before leaving for the ICC meeting next week.

“We have deliberated extensively on the matter,” he said. “I want to apprise the PM and take his suggestion before the meeting.”

The next ICC meeting is scheduled to be held in Singapore on February 8 where the decision on the ‘Big Three’ proposal to take control of the ICC is expected to be taken.

“I will convey public sentiments and the governing body’s stance. We will push for improvement in the proposal and do what is best in the interest of Pakistan cricket.”

‘Opposing Three’ plan tri-nation event: Ashraf

The ‘Big Three’ require just one vote to see a change in the ICC constitution, with Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) along with the PCB yet to decide their stance.

Media reports on Monday suggested that CSA has agreed to the ‘Big Three’ proposal but Ashraf stressed that the ‘Opposing Three’ were still on the same line.

“We are in contact with those cricket boards. So far, none of the three boards have taken a decision in this regard.”

The PCB chairman added that the three countries were also in talks for a tri-nation tournament.

“Discussions have been made to hold Jinnah-Mandela Trophy featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa, with the revenue to be shared equally.”

Ashraf said he was also in talks with the BCCI, who have expressed willingness to play a home series with Pakistan in the UAE.

Meanwhile, the PCB chairman hinted at the announcement of a new selection committee shortly.

Will Patron meet Ashraf?

Despite repeated requests, Ashraf failed to get time from the Patron to meet over the ‘Big Three’ proposal.

Whether PM Nawaz will meet the PCB chairman has become a million-dollar question.

It has been learned that the Prime Minister is reluctant to meet Ashraf, whose restoration saw the ousting of his Interim Management Committee.

However, officials close to the matter stated that since the governing body meeting did not reach a concrete decision on the PCB’s stance over ICC’s reforms, the meeting with the Patron now seems inevitable.

It is also believed that a change in the PCB command is unlikely before the ICC meeting. Ashraf might have to take the lead in making a decision, if the Patron continues to ignore him.

He's not the favorite of the current GoP though.
^^
And here lies the problem as we were discussing it.The patron won't help him. Zaka is not the chosen one.NS should do some justice with his title.

where lol

they have not decided anything yet but yea greedy BCCI is desperate and jumping here and there for another vote

There is no money without the Big 3.
why not you big 3 only play to each others because you are all rich so leave poor nations and their cricket alone ..have a world cup of cricket with only big three participate in it :D

I know there were initial financial problems, but than everything will be in order. India don't generate all those revenue by playing with herself, and for how long so called Big 3 will keep playing each other?
There is no need to play with each other.
Question is how long will the rest 4 play with each other without money?

BCCI will sign bilateral agreements with better revenue models that gives us back more of our money. Right now, our money is being used to finance the world cricket and other countries are not willing to let go of the free gravy train.

Same thing. The other countries are getting free money off our backs. They need to let go of the free gravy train.

CSA-BCCI impasse likely to end

Firdose Moonda and Amol Karhadkar

February 3, 2014

Cricket South Africa and BCCI have resumed discussions about a possible patch-up that may result in the former supporting the ICC revamp in exchange of the CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat being reintegrated into top administration.

If the discussions end positively, then it is possible that not only could CSA vote in favour of the proposed ICC overhaul but also that Lorgat resumes attending ICC meetings and CSA's dealings with their Indian counterpart. More importantly, India and South Africa could be seen in action against each more frequently than over the last few years.

While a South Africa cricket insider claimed that the BCCI had made "an offer" to CSA, a BCCI administrator maintained they haven't "offered anything to anyone" for supporting the Big Three (the boards of India, England and Australia) proposal that is likely to be voted on during a special ICC Board meeting on Dubai over the weekend.

The BCCI insider, on the other hand, conceded that CSA and Lorgat are keen to patch up with the BCCI and have informally approached them. Since the decision on Lorgat is an "ICC resolution", the BCCI "cannot do anything", according to him. Though it couldn't be ascertained independently whether ICC has passed a resolution against Lorgat, his role in former ICC head of legal David Becker's statementsduring the BCCI-CSA impasse is being probed by an independent ICC panel.

CSA's turnaround in their stance is significant since they were the first full member to oppose the Big Three proposal that would alter the dynamics of international cricket's governance. CSA, in a statement ahead of the January 28 ICC Board meeting, had appealed to the ICC president Alan Isaac to withdraw the proposal.

In the course of informal discussions, CSA and BCCI are believed to be discussing more bilateral series. The CSA chief executive's appointment and the allegedly unilateral announcement of the itinerary for India's tour to South Africa led to the relations between the two boards reaching an all-time low. The BCCI agreed for acurtailed tour only after CSA withdrew Lorgat from all the ICC and BCCI-related matters.

This breakdown in relations between the BCCI and CSA was followed by the Big Three leaving CSA in the dark about the proposed revamp as well as the sideline meetings around the ICC Board meeting in Dubai last week.

Some one was here talking about Jinnah-Mandella or may be Rajpaksa series ....

I was surprised by PCB reaction ... poor fellas can not even outright rejected the proposal..showing only 'serious concerns'.

Indian takeover of ICC is inevitable...although test status of Bangladesh should be preserved.

1. I am talking about ICC with Big-3, as it's Big-3s who are threatening to part away or twisting arms of countries like Bangladesh

2. I have no problem of changing the formula of revenue sharing, I am raising voice against replacing current democratic system and introduction veto powers and guess what world's so called largest democracy is coming up with this retarded idea, and new rules which will not apply on Brahmin's of cricket and they will decide everything.

Even well educated Indians supporting it tell what kind of mindset is prevalent in India.
