Pakistan's second largest Natural Gas reservoir in Kirthar: Sindh

The Resources are there , we Just need to Find them.

As a Professor of Geology once said,
"I Refuse to believe that Oil just stopped at Iran border "

No it does not, under the ground there are no boundaries.

8.5-11.5 billion cubic meters represents about 3 months worth of consumption at the current rate.

What Pakistan really needs is to develop 52 trillion cubic feet of shale for any semblance of energy security.

Haq's Musings: Pakistan's Vast Shale Gas Deposits

i ve no doubt that pakistan has huge untapped mineral deposits but the only concern is for exploration and development one need huge capex...so, guess Pak need a parter who has capital and technology...

well resources are their sindh and balochistan are full of it but no one would look into it

Im Happy That this is found when zardari is about to go, He aint doing anything to this now, ITS All to Imran Khans Govt, he will make electricity from coal of thar, He will end Corruption, he will Take measures so these wells Of Gas Dont Fall In wrong hands!

We need Partner like iran and China,
Now dont say that you were hinting towards india, Everybody knows india dont have technology and is severly struck by poverty and runs on UK aid!

Actually as VCheng pointed out it is not a question of borders - All of iranian oilfields are located in West of Iran in area that has no semblance [ in geological terms ] to Pakistan.

We may be neighbours [ Iran-Pakistan ] but most of our geology could be from other side of the planet. The sad fact is [ self masturbating asides ] that the Indus Valley geology is very poor as regards to mineral/oil resources. Most of our geology is raw and very young in geological terms.

As a result we are almost bereft of any coal, iron, aluminium or oil. All are needed for modern industry. We have some gas but it is not sufficient for our burgeoning poulation.

All that hype about Thar coal is just that ...... hype. I have in my back garden rusty coloured soil. Any inspection would reveal that as indicative or ferrous ore which contains the elemant iron. Any further analysis would also probably reveal traces of gold and coal.

That does not mean I can set up a mine there and get rich overnight. The truth is elemants such as Iron etc are found almost everywhere. The problem is extraction. You have to have a certain purity before it becomes economical to mine. In the case of coal anthracite the highest grade has most carbon and thus the heat content.

Lower grade coal such as the Thar coal has very low heat content but very high moisture content therefore making it uneconomical. That explains why we do not have a long line in Islamabad of multinationals ready to sign contracts. Rest assured if we discovered large deposits of high grade coal or iron we would have multinationals falling over each other to sign contracts with Pakistan.

Coal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Compare Australia which exported 400 million tons of coal to China and Japan earning it $40 billion. It also exported $55 billion of Iron ore most of which went to our friend China. If we had these resources locked away in our soil you think the Chinese would be going to racist Australians for their Iron imports?

Just think about it, between coal and iron [ both bounty of nature ] Australia earns nearly $95 billion that is almost 4 times more than our combined exports. Thats what you call resource [ lucky ] rich country.

Daily Times - Leading News Resource of Pakistan

So guys irrespective of daku Zardari we are going to continue to be resource starved country - Maybe the mullahs could force every Pakistani to pray 5 times a day, kill all the blasphemers than Allah Almighty might decide to change our geology so that out pours oil, gas and the sandy soil turns into iron, coal, gold, zinc, manganese etc.

Then Pakistan would also be blessed like USA or Australia is !!!

How right you are Sir.

8.5 to 11.5 billion cubic feet is a small size field and just about commercially viable. Pakistan's total reserves are about 30 trillion cubic feet (30,000 billion) and this represents an addition of 0.03% only. Now matter how small, the additional find is most welcome but not a reason to start jumping with joy.

It will be a long time before we start to exploit Shale gas. US is the leader in horizontal drilling. With US considered our greatest enemy by a very large section of the population; don’t you think that it would be hypocritical to ask the great Satan US to provide us horizontal drilling technology?

We get our strike fighter F-16 from USA, we get billions of dollars in aid from USA, lot of our military hardware is from USA, that would include things like Cobra Helicopters, PC-1 Orion aircraft etc. In addition most of our elite send their children to US for higher education. Also 100,000 of Pakistan have made USA their home and millions more would love to migrate if they could find a boat that they could hide in to take them to USA.

So, all in all I suspect our hypocracy index would not be elevated to any significant degree we were also to say to Uncle Sam "can we pretty please have the horizontal drilling trchnology"?

If they refused we could always burn a few more US flags !!!

Pakistan American numbers are around 400,000-700,000.

Loll Pakistan itself can't do jack with those resources, Better bid them out than wasting time. Invite Indian companies too..

Thanks. I meant 100,000s of Pakistani's. That would compare with maybe tops 100s of American's in Pakistan although looking at the ruckus that was created over the number of American's trampling all over Pakistan you would think Pakistan was being swamped by American's.

And before anybody mentions that CIA guy who shot two Pakistani's let us not forget the Times Square bomber etc. Of course rest of the 400,000-700,000 Pakistani's have never done a wrong thing in America.

Strange is the ways of our country !!!

I would agree with you on one condition. The 1.3 billion Chinese share the same sentiment about the 1.2 billion Indians. So why don't you invite the Chinese companies ............. ?

Any doubts? Have a look at the combined productivity of 1.3 billion Chinese and then compare that with the combined productivity of 1.2 billion Indians and you won't be so arrogant.

My father has worked for ENI in italy as a consultant and he tells me is a very good company. Its good to see that Pakistan has chosen them for a project.

Yes everybody knows that! Very true. Really true. But no need to bring that up.

And I am sure he was hinting at China. Not India.
