What's new

Why Bangladesh probably has a lot of unexplored natural gas reserves

Just supporting domestic demand for next 20 years would decimate the trade deficit.

It would also spur energy intensive manufacturing like steel and aluminium.

Ekushe February nonsense needs to go!!!

Burn all the “shaheed minars”.

Pakistani junta were right in massacring your Abduls.

Bangladesh needs to adopt English as the language of academia and civil service.

It would immediately make all the political thugs redundant.

There are plenty of countries that are doing well with out deleting their home language thanks.

What we need is to invest in to technical/vocational skills.

A complete revamp of higher education.

Better retention of brain drain, and re-entering brain drain.

Greater investment in hdi

India although very plural, emphasised English. Its still a rubbish hole.

It’s very difficult to learn when you do not speak one of the major languages.

Without English you can only read the few poorly translated science books.

You cannot read important science journals.

Hell!

Bangladeshi kids cannot even take advantage of the excellent Khan Academy!!!

You can tell that your average Bangladeshi is poorly read - given their shallow understanding of things.

Instead of reading the London Economist - they watch Pinaki videos 🤣🤣🤣

Some ngo, can easily collab with khan academy. We do not live in an old or middle era.

There is a defo deficit on skilled vocational/technical and managing gap would pluck ppl out lower into upper working -lower middle class.

Certification is not like getting a degree either

Well advised. But the big question remains to be answered who or which group of people would bell the cat.

For now, I do not find anyone expect Zobaida the wife of Tareque of BNP. She is educated and knowledgeable.

Guys, please do not cite the name of Tareque and Joy Kumar. These two idiots have little vision.

Lot cheaper in the long run.

Send 100 people to western universities and on work experience.

Everything you say is right.

Bangladeshi Muslims should have learnt from the Christians instead of feeling superior to Christians.

Hindus learnt from Christianity and are now prospering.

It’s not too late!

Also drop the shitty bangla language as the language of academia and administration.

That will also weed out the illiterates!!!

Are you already tired of living? Why talking against our great language called Bangla and our country Golden Bangladesh?

Hasina’s spy network will find you out through the IP address, catch you, and send you to a jail where special mosquitos are raised. Their size is like that of a cockroach.

So, better do not you talk against Bengali language. Hasina claims her father was the organizer although he was in the Faridpur Jail at that time. No doubt.

Like her father, she also wants Bengali to become an Universal Language. You must not annoy Hasina.

Read Badruddin Omar’s Bhasha Andolon for better understanding of the language movement. Our Mulla guys must be happy when you talk against Bangla. They think it is a Hindu Zaban unfit to be spoken by true muslims.

My poor view of Vedic languages is not based on religious prejudice!!!

It is based on the fact that Vedic people rarely wrote anything down due to paranoia about sharing knowledge. Brahmins would pass on their knowledge to their sons via crude mantras and prose and myths.

Mughals were great writers. The great emperors wrote autobiographies but they were written in Urdu.

Hence to get first hand understanding of the Mughals - you need to know Urdu!!!

Vedic mythologies and philosophies were brought to the masses by Arabs and Latin scholars.

What has been written in Bangla apart from Tagore and a few other writers???

In the scheme of things, very few original writing is in Bangla.

The great Hindu Bengali scholars acquired their knowledge thanks to the embrace of English!!!

And Muslim Bengali scholars were masters of Urdu.

Only our second rate politicians became great through the embrace of a primitive language like Bangla.

Lej chara shials (Bangladeshi elite) promote Bangla because they cannot speak English!!!

Wow!

A collab with khan academy?

What about the other academies?

And the academies that pop up regularly?

Your great plan doesn’t put the end user in control!!!

You have to wait for your great NGOs to spend money and time 🤣🤣🤣

There are literally thousands of academies online…

Everything from putting together a motor bike to getting AI certified.

Your great NGO is going to translate and partner all? Is it?

BD immigrants arrive in London and NY - and cannot move beyond cabbies or burger joints - for that reason!!!!

Lack of English holds them back.

You know, I was once driven to JFK airport by a famous Dhaka journalist 🤣🤣🤣

If we accept your suggestion then we have to rename Bangladesh to Englishdesh.

Why?

India’s academic and administrative language is English.

And Modi is about to do the opposite - by renaming India to Bharat.

What we call Bangladesh - used Urdu for 300 years.

Bengali is the racial identity of Bangladeshis.

It need not be their administrative or academic language.

Was not urdu, it was Farsi.

How does that invalidate my assertion?

My assertion is that Bangla has never been the administrative and academic language of Bengal.

Because Bangla is a primitive - mother tongue - language.

Foreign funding of exploration will mean most of the revenue goes abroad.

It will not benefit the country much. And probably do ecological damage…

And the cost will be front loaded - which will hurt other projects.

It should be left unexplored until Bangladesh can do the exploration by itself.

There are other countries, much wealthier, technologically advanced and not faced with existential crisises compared to Bangladesh that faced the same question. To bring in the Supermajors, let them carry the risks of exploring potential gas and oil fields and give them a slice of the pie or to somehow do it alone.

Funnily enough all the ones that I am aware of decided to bring in outside expertise, assets and capital.

Pakistan does not have the expertise and "sending people outside to learn" is a joke. RUSSIA is going to face major problems with its gas fields, especially in the permafrost over the next few years due to the flight of foreign expertise. Ever wonder why Venezuela is producing just a fraction of its oil compared to previous decades? Partially because it nationalized and drove off the foreign experts. And that's just for already existing, producing fields.

But instead you propose that Bangladesh somehow send people out to become experts. And that Bangladesh should find the capital needed to explore, drill and take the risks.

For a country that is existing on IMF handouts that could, in theory, be producing gas in 5 years, you need outside help. Most countries on this planet with potential offshore gas fields need outside help. Leave the nationalistic emotions aside and consider common sense.
