Pakistan's acquisition of the U-214

Nope, Chinese subs were never part of PN original plan, it only changed recently due to some unkown reasons. The original plan was only technical superior german or French subs and Type-214 was evaluated and it would have been plausible to acquire them in 2 batch orders of 3x2. And then yes their could have been a possibility to acquire chinese SSK to total up the fleet of 12 that should be like 6 type-214 3 A-90B and 3 SSK as for AFFDP-2019.
.
but sir the thing is that the intent was not to get both systems side by side.
i mean that your are right that only U214 and french options were evaluated bt this was for first block.

the thing that would have followed would eventually had been chinese subs to increase fleet size as they would have come for cheaper prices and with the optin of modification.

if you remember, whenn the U214 deal was on, there were reports that PN will also have some limited ToT as they were looking forward to jointly orde along with turkey.
this development would surely have helped PN to get technical experience that was bound to be used in collaboration with china to produce somthing suitable to our requirment.

the thing is that 3 U214 were never enough in number and buying more of such expensive platforms was always out of reach...

U-214 is one of the best SSK in the world. Don't know what stopping PN to sign the deal???

They started talk with Germans regarding U-214 much before RFP launched for second line submarine. There must be other issues be cause U-214 is a great SSK.

Hi, some of the reasons have to do with economic, as Pakistan cannot afford this purchase and anyone would be hesitant lending 1B Euros to them. The other is, that Zardari Saab loves the French and is probably interfering also. Thanks!

PN has not been forced to hold talks with China for the subs, nor have the Chinese forced it onto us.

U-214 deal is nearly off the table, major reason being kickbacks and few other external factors, some pressure kind of stuff, can't go in details.

And as for French, same issue kickbacks as well as some other technical issues, and thanks to PN for having resisted the pressure on buying the french so far.

China offered their sub, whose technical details were good enough to attract the PN.

Also, PN needs some customization, which may have been a problem if had gone with western subs, while in the Chinese option, we may have a free hand regarding the customization which we need.

come on..:hitwall:
you must atleast do some basic research before chanting such base less arguments..

Germans kept on pushing PN to get the deal and it was our mistake that it went down.
the germans were nevr reluctant to sell us the sub.
moreover the idea was to jointly order 9 sub (3 PN + 6 Turkish Navy). is india going for more then this????

i will appreciate that you provide a source to back this claim.

regards!

Idk if it would have been a bunched up deal. It might have just been 3 subs produced in Germany then shipped over. Turkey is going for a full on we now want to produce submarines and want your tech deal. The Germans are only providing certain elements that Turkey can't produce. The majority of the sub will have Turkish made systems. It is highly modified.

yes it is like this,
PN was looking to join Turkey. the first was to be produced inn germany and the last two in pakistan.
there were no plans to induct turkish systems on the PN subs but joint order would have helped both the nations in terms of costs!

regards!

Kickbacks are only involved when a inferior system is trying to win orders over a superior system.
Chinese sub deal could most likely involve kickbacks then German deal. I am not making this up but if some of you do happen to talk with military officers they will be most happy to enlighten you.

There is no kickback element in the Chinese option, nor it was sought after kickbacks happened.

German deal was to a large extend finalized, even the financial deal with some part being seller credit and some cash from us was done, customization meaning some weapon of our origin being matted with the German sub was also done, but things got worse after the present regime came up, their demand of kickbacks was not being entertained by the Germans, plus due to the customization thingy, some external pressure also started to come on the Germans, which made the deal go off the table. But major issue was the kickbacks being asked from this side, which the Germans not agreeing to.

Same case for the French ones, govt was pushing for this deal, but thanks to some high ups in the PN, the deal has so far been rejected or may be rejected totally so far. And another notorious figure from the past was / is also involved in this deal, hope it can be guessed who it is.

Around this time, the Chinese presented their brochure of their latest sub, which seemed interesting to the PN and with open hand in customization anything with it, the PN has went for this option so far. PN is looking for some changes as well as money is once again a problem.

Its not a done deal that kickback has to be used in inferior systems only, we have numerous examples where best defence companies have been involved in kickbacks and other such actions to promote their products.

Siemens is notorious for its Kickbacks..
Almost every deal in the 70's and 80's with Siemens was scandalous.
