Pakistan tops list of nations with most affordable telecom services

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan beat 138 other countries in topping a list of nations with the most affordable telecom services in the world, Pakistan’s state run media reported on Monday.

The findings are part of a report titled Network Readiness Index and released by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

According to details of the report, Pakistan is ahead of other countries including India, Bangladesh and Srilanka in the South Asian region, which are ranked at 8th, 14th and 35th respectively.

Earlier this month, on March 13, Pakistan’s Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said: “PTA is mandated is to ensure that mobile devices being imported conform to technical standards laid down by international standardization bodies and do not pose any health or frequency issues in licensed spectrum being used in Pakistan.”

Last year on November 22, the WEF had released a web-post which said that Pakistan was "one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets in the world".

"Pakistan, which is emerging from many years of the war on terror, is now on a decent path to progress, with economic growth of 5.8% and improved investor confidence. At the World Economic Forum in 2017, Ebay’s chief executive, Devin Wenig, highlighted Pakistan as one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets in the world. In 2018, Alibaba bought Pakistan’s largest e-commerce platform, Daraz.pk,” the statement read.

yup I got a SIM card with a preactivated package for only 500 PKR and that had plenty of calling minutes and 2.5GB of data and I could hardly use about 1.7 gigz of that while watching videos trying to just surf through it before leaving as I was mostly always hooked up to the WIFI. 4G speeds were also pretty decent, that too while my home is 1 hour ride from Islamabad.

For 149 we get 42GB data at 4G and unlimited calling for 28 days...and additionally get 5-10GB as various offers in the month.

BSNL gives 3.7GB 3G data per day and unlimited calling for 90 days for 485
Would like to see how competitive its on your side.

2. With increase in number of users. Reports says now it sucks.
3. Jio is still in loss. And reports says it will not start earning even in 2019. So i guess jio will a). Increase prices b). Decrease data c). Wait for increase in Users , that way it will start earning but, will have to invest more on fiber connections and supporting infrastructure. Which will further increase loses of jio. Btw this son of ambani is a good businesman. I think he do have a plan.

Also, i heard BsNL sucks big time ? What improved ?

Well it has the best avg speed among 4g providers. It may suck for someone who wants blazing fast internet.
It does good for majority who are happy with video playbacks, video calls, facebook and whatapp videos.

Any company which makes investments of size of JIO will not break even in a year or two, they generally have time horizon of 5-10yrs. Still JIO will make it much faster.

c. JIO Fiber is already rolling in. All the costs are accounted for, they are riding up on digital data which is next generation OIL. Hence strong business plans are already in place and will turn things into profitability very soon.

Well its a national service provider, it does sucks when needed the most like other providers when load increases, but otherwise does a very decent job and being a backbone of nation.

Well it has the best avg speed among 4g providers. It may suck for someone who wants blazing fast internet.

My reference for that statement was some Indian web serieses, some indian youtube video, and 1-2 reports of average jio speed slowing down. Don’t know about the actual onground situation. Maybe its comparatively good.

Jio set the bar too high. Just like Ik. Now lets see if they hold to it.

We also have one BSLN ka bAap i.e; PTCL DSL. Whenever it rains for 5 minutes. The DSL do’t work for next 3-4 days. So even for disktop i use mobile data. Its more reliable, though compratively expensive. I mean we get 105 GB per month for 2500 PKR. Thats INR 1600-1700 i guess.


Btw, behind the rapid expansion of chinese mobile phone brands in india, Jio played a hige role. Sometimes i think JiO should ask for its share
