Pakistan keen to promote defence relations with Bahrain
SLAMABAD: Commandant National Guards of Bahrain Muhammad Bin Esa-ul-Khalifa on Friday met President General Pervez Musharraf here in Presidential Camp Office and discussed matters of mutual interest.
According to the military sources, the President stressed the need to enhance the relations between two countries in all field including defence.
He said Pakistan is keen to promote relations with Navy of Bahrain. Enhancement in defence and military sectors between Pakistan and Bahrain would further strengthen the relations, the President noted.
On the occasion, Commandant National Guards lauded professional capabilities of Pakistan Army and training standard especially development in defence production.
He said Bahrain is taking interest to obtain army and defence equipments of Pakistan because it is akin to International standard.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that Pakistan would welcome businessmen from Bahrain to invest in Pakistan which is a thriving market of 160 million people, a growing economy open to both local and foreign investors.
The Prime Minister said the while talking to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Esa-ul-Khalifa, Commander National Guard of Bahrain who called on him at the PM`s House Friday afternoon.
The Prime Minister said that it is a matter of satisfaction that growing number of investors from the GCC states are now investing in the various sectors of Pakistan`s economy.
Common faith, culture and values shared by Pakistan and Bahrain have strengthened relations between the two countries and our bilateral relations are characterized by complete trust, mutual understanding and unanimity of views on all issues, the Prime Minister said,
He said Pakistan values its ties with Bahrain and the people of the two countries are close to each other as a sizeable number of Pakistanis are working in Bahrain.
The Prime Minister said there is enormous potential for greater bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Bahrain in areas such as trade, investments, joint business ventures, defence, culture and education and Pakistan is keen to further expand cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan would soon send an inter-ministerial delegation to follow up on the decisions taken during the recent visit of the Crown Prince Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa and Prime Minister of Bahrain Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa last year.
The Prime Minister appreciated Bahrain`s achievements in the fields of economy, education and tourism. He also appreciated the dedicated efforts being made in the Kingdom for the empowerment of women, promotion and welfare of the youth and creation of equal opportunities for all segments of society.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan strongly favors peace, security and prosperity in the Gulf region and we will continue to work with GCC countries to promote mutual interest.
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Issa Al-Khalifa, said that Bahrain is keen to strengthen and expand its multifaceted relationship with Pakistan as it has historic, close and brotherly ties with it.
He said that the exchange of business and government delegations will go a long way in strengthening economic ties and promoting trade and investment between the two countries.
He said that the hardworking and disciplined Pakistani community in Bahrainis contributing to the growth and prosperity of Bahrain.
Commander (Retd) Khalil-ur-Rehman Special Assistant to Prime Minister also attended the meeting.
