Pakistan, Iran relations ‘back on track’
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran have overcome a major hiccup in their relations after the two neighbours agreed not to allow ‘third parties’ to derail their longstanding ties, officials and diplomats said on Monday.

Relationship between Islamabad and Tehran had been tense since the February 13 suicide attack in Iran’s volatile southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, leaving 27 Revolutionary Guards dead.

Iran pointed a finger at Pakistan for harbouring ‘terrorists’ at a time when it was facing a similar allegations from India after the February 14 Pulwama attack.

For once it looked as if India was able to successfully use Iranian attack to its advantage.

However, while Pakistan battled out India on diplomatic and military fronts, it reached out to Iran quietly through ‘relevant channels’ to defuse the crisis.

Now after weeks of those efforts, relations between the two countries is back on track.

“The misunderstanding between the two brotherly countries is over and the conspiracy of third party is demolished,” said Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardost.

Talking to a group of journalists at the embassy, the Iranian envoy also said “soon there will be very good news” for the Pakistan-Iran relationship.

“The fact that I have invited you today is to convey a message that relations between the two countries are back on track,” Honardost added.

It is believed that Pakistan worked overtime to ensure that relations with Iran do not get affected at a time when India has been trying to isolate Pakistan diplomatically.

One of the reasons the Iranian ambassador was upbeat was because of Pakistan’s recent action to rescue Iranian border

guards.

On March 21, Pakistan rescued four Iranian soldiers being held captive by a militant group in Balochistan.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had said in a statement the rescue took place in Chagai district, near the Afghan border.

The rescued soldiers were then handed over to the Iranian authorities. Tehran thanked Pakistan’s efforts to recover the abducted border guards.

The recent telephonic conversation between President Hassan Rouhani and Prime Minister Imran Khan also helped defused tensions between the two neighbors.

The Iranian envoy said Pakistan and Iran could promote their institutional cooperation in a variety of economic, political, security and cultural spheres through a long term strategic approach.

“In this case, incidental events are too minor to affect the relations of the two countries,” he stressed, referring to recent events that stirred a diplomatic row between the two neighbours.

“External factors and third parties should not affect the relations between Iran and Pakistan and the relations between the two countries must reach it maximum level,” he added.

Responding to a question, the Iranian envoy insisted that there was no rivalry between the Gwadar Port and Chabahar port of Iran. “In fact both the ports can complement each other.”

And they thought they could come at us from all sides.

I must say, it has been a long time since we saw things being handled this properly by our establishment. Systematically defeated the enemy at every single front.

Pakistan and Iran need to turn this rapprochement into a mutually beneficial economic arrangement. Trans-ship to Turkey and on wards to Europe via the Iran Rail network can make CPEC more competitive. CPEC SEZs in different cities of Pakistan can be shipped across the border at Taftan and Gwadar. Iran could earn a decent amount of foreign exchange from the transit trade.

If Iran uses this approach, it could also have an efficient network to transit central Asia's trade, and win over market share from Russia.

Its a good way for them to diversify their economy, and utilize their strategic location.

iran wants to be the muslim super power hence the belligerence towards Pakistan "which is a strong country like it or not" Though I some what agree with their criticism of other gulf countries but hey they themselves are cozy with the world's most anti-muslim country which is hell bent on destabilising Pakistan.

What kind of relation is this which goes off the track every month. I say let them go just keep our side of border secure let them have what they are destined to have.

Will never forget their behavior toward Pakistan during recent hostilities with bharat, they were singing in same tone as India and US, for me Mullah terrorists swines will remain Mullah terrorists swine as usual, i wish some sane people overthrow these swines.

The ***-beating that India got sent a strong message towards Tehran that Pakistan is not a country to be messed with. We can do strategic encirclement of Iran if we want to, which is Iran's worst nightmare.

BS Farsi propaganda !!

You think Pakistanis have a memory problem or what?

Iran only shut its trap after the beating we gave to its pimp(india). Khomeni Mullahs are hypocritical cowards of the highest grade.

Exactly right! These people are cowards. When these iranians saw indian arse spanked hard, openly in public, and they air force destroyed like flies, they knew they would be over-run if they tried any nonsense. So they went back into the holes they belong. But once a coward, always a coward. They will come back again in future.

Good to hear but Ambassadors to our own country don't matter in these issue in my humble opinion. Give a statement of Irani Foreign Office or Federal Cabinet or any one important from Tehran.
Ambassadors always praise relations of the country they represent with the country they are positioned in. Even Indian Ambassador to Pakistan will sing Songs of Improving relations between India and Pakistan

Iranians comes to their senses lately in other words:partay:

its just cz the way Pakistan spanked Indians from all sides.....this Iranians would be totally different if Pakistan had not responded to Indian war mongering.

Iranians can not be trusted and it seems Saudis are better then them at least they dont try to score points on every given chance like Iranians instead Saudis try to help Pakistan.

take this _l_you Irani ambassador your country has lost credibility in Pakistan.

Maturity shown by Pakistan pays dividends in both issues with Iran and India. We won the praise of the public of both countries, while warmonger leaders in both tried to instigate war.

Iran is under the crosshairs of many nations and pressure from many sides makes its foreign policy paradoxical and erratic.

We did good by sending Sheikh Rasheed to talk some ‘sense’ to the Iranians. This man is not to be trifled with.
