May be I am missing something, but I think Nawab Siraj ud Daullah was one of the first local rulers to fight against British East India Company, Black Hole of Calcutta(no matter how exaggerated) and Battle of Pelasy are historical events. Maybe you are referring to Mir Jaffar who British appointed after the fall of Siraj ud Daullah as ruler of Bengal, and we Muslims of Sub-continent consider that name synonymous with treachery. The first people to bend over to the British was Siraj-ud-Daullah.

As for the Marathas, they did fight British but they also fought alongside them against fellow "Indians" e.g they were part of the coalition against Tipu of Mysore.
