Pakistan defies US, honors Iran gas deal

I would really feel good about the progress of Iran Pak pipeline deal. The reason is that at present may be India is thinking twice to join the deal because of pressure from US and bad US Iran relation. But who knows after a decade may be the things will change and India may really go for it to meet its energy demands.....So i would say progress of this deal is good deal for India in a long term perspective.

The nuke deal was given to India as a trade-off. Not a bad deal, I would say.

The Govt deserves a "well done" for sustaining US pressure but Gas imported from Iran will be very expensive. It will cost us 14$/MMBTU whereas right now we have 4 $/MMBTU rate in our country. This gas will be none of our use until Govt gives subsidy or cross subsidizes it with our national gas production.both will be harmful for our economy

Agha Jaan - It's still cheaper than gasoline and you can still generate relatively cheap electricity and most importantly you can run your industry

The price agreed upon for the moment i.e. 80 percent of the oil price, may not be as low as initially bargained for. But in the absence of alternatives this appears to be the most feasible offer. With oil prices falling as they are these days, Pakistan should benefit

But I think once its built probably India and if not India China will join and Pakistan will benefit from transit fees

excellent news  it was long over due Aryan_B well done & good insight & research as regards to pak/iran/russia/china/car's thread

thank you brother I am pleased you found it interesting and useful

I know this is a bit off topic but Pakistan has nuclear knowledge why they dont go for Nuclear energy? Is it a cost issue?

yes it cost issue and with a couple more.one is fuel.No one wants to provide us fuel for our reactors and technology too except China.

.
We also need transparent control of the gas and its organization.

I think Transparency and Pakistan don't go well in same sentence, unless there are revolutionary changes in system and constitution as well

.
Decade will be too late - I think pipeline will go to China and i don't think Chinese industrial complex will leave anything of India

No brother Pakistanis maximum benefit is if it is used by both china and India. but either way Pakistan makes money through transit and will resolve our people problems so its a win for Iran Pakistan China and India. money and benefits stay in neighbourhood and dont go to big american corporations.

Pakistan may need to use ALL of the gas supplied without leaving any for transit, so great will be the shortfall:

excerpt from: The myth of Pakistan

...............................

If every project that the country is currently planning – including a pipeline from Iran, large offshore gas import terminals, and even the politically dicey pipeline from Turkmenistan that passes through Afghanistan – were to be completed on time and deliver exactly as much gas as expected, the country will still be short of 2 billion cfd in 2020.

Nothing new, In past Switzerland and Japan had defied US sanctions.

lets make the money first. Hopefully IK will come good on his promises.

Like every one else i listened to his speech in Karachi but sorry to say his vision is limited.

I will not go in details because opposition parties might pickup the lines but any change would be better for Pakistan.

GO GHADARI GO

If we consume all gas than isn't it a positive sign? :what:

Well, you tell me if these figures mean anything positive to you, from the same source:

.............

Pakistan’s domestic gas production is expected to fall from the current 4 billion cubic feet per day (cfd) to 2 billion cfd by 2020. Demand, on the other hand, is expected to soar to 8 billion cfd by that time, creating a 6 billion cfd shortfall.

...........

Even with BOTH IP and TAP built, Pakistan will still be short 2 billion cfd by 2020.
