NEW DELHI: Top union ministers will meet today to discuss ceasefire violations and claims by Pakistan that it has shot down an Indian "spy plane" for intruding into its territory. India has denied these claims, which officials say counter the spirit of the joint statement following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif last week.

1. In the meeting this morning, Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aijaz Ahmed Chaudhary protested against "cross bordering firing by India" and also claimed that an Indian spy plane had been shot down for violation of airspace.
2. A statement from the Pakistan foreign office said: "An Indian UAV (Spy Drone) entered Pakistan's air space in violation of the international law, Pakistan's territorial integrity... The UAV was brought down by Pakistani troops."
3. High Commissioner TCA Raghavan denied that the drone was Indian, and asserted that it was Pakistan that fired first at the border.
4. The Pakistan army alleges that India was using the drone for aerial photography near the Line of Control and it was shot down in the Bhimber area of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir for "violation of Pakistan's territorial integrity."
5. The claim has been questioned because the drone does not appear to be of the kind used by India. Indian officials say the drone is used for highway patrolling, and could have belonged to the police of Pakistan's Punjab province.
6. Indian government sources called it a "strange coincidence that Pakistan claimed it shot down an Indian drone soon after the violation" on Wednesday.
7. A woman was killed and six, including two soldiers, were injured in heavy firing from across the border in Jammu's Akhnoor sector.
8. In more firing this morning in Jammu, three villagers have been injured at the RS Pura sector.
9. The ceasefire violations come just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu on Friday.
10. Last week, PM Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif held talks on the sidelines of a regional conference in Ufa in Russia. As part of breakthrough announcements after the talks, the two countries decided to arrange meetings of senior military officials to reduce tension along the border.

Pakistan army on Wednesday claimed to have shot down an Indian “spy” drone which it alleged was being used for aerial photography near the Line of Control, the Hindu reported.

The incident come days after a meeting between Indian PM Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Russia last week.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a brief statement, said the Indian drone was brought down near the Line of Control in Bhimber area of Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

The army claimed that the drone was being used for aerial photography and was “brought down for violation of Pakistan’s territorial integrity.”

"An Indian spy drone was shot down by Pakistani troops which intruded into Pakistan along [the de facto border that divides the region] near Bhimber today. The spy drone is used for aerial photography," a statement from the Pakistani military said on Wednesday, reported BBC.

Pakistan also summoned the Indian envoy in Islamabad over the incident.

But a spokesperson of the Indian army denied the report. "Some reports of a drone crash in Azad Kashmir [Pakistan-controlled Kashmir] are being referred to. No drone or UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] crash of the Indian Army has taken place," the spokesperson told the Press Trust of India news agency, BBC reported.

An air force spokesperson also denied that any of their drones had been brought down.

New Delhi: India on Thursday said the drone that Pakistan claimed to have shot down, alleging that it was an "Indian spy drone", was in fact a Chinese one available off the shelf.

Pakistan had summoned India's envoy this morning and alleged that India had violated two agreements on air space violations with a drone that was shot down near the Line of Control in Bhimber in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. The drone was being used for "aerial photography," Pakistan's Inter Services Public Relations alleged.

A photo supplied by the Pakistani military appeared to show a Chinese-made DJI Phantom 3.

"It is not a drone of Indian design, it is not available in the Indian inventory. It looks like a drone of Chinese design, commercially available off-the-shelf," said Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishanker this evening.

Experts say the model is sold commercially for aerial filming and would contain no secret military technology. Anyone can buy it for around Rs. 1.5 lakh on eBay.

Did Pakistan shoot down its own drone? Experts say it is possible.

Top officials in India say drones of this make are used by the Pakistan police and is quite unlike larger UAVs or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles used by the armed forces for high altitude reconnaissance or armed drones like the ones used by the US to target terrorists on Pakistani soil.

Indian forces and police use the indigenous "Nethra" drones manufactured by Ideaforge and the Defence Research and Development Organisation.

The Indian forces also use advanced Israeli made Searcher and Heron UAVs or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.

Pakistan has been pushing for its own lethal drones, and often protests that the US drone strikes targeted at the Taliban and al Qaeda are an infringement of its national sovereignty.

In March, the Pakistani military announced it had test-fired its own drone equipped with a laser-guided missile. Analysts said the video showed a drone similar to models produced by Pakistan's close ally China.

If that was true, you would have posted links to those "international media."

All of them, including BBC, titled it as "Pakistan claims to have shot down Indian drone."

Even they knew better than to take Pakistan's boasts at face value. Only Pakistanis are delusional enough to believe their armed forces' claims.

It was a cheap Chinese drone available in Pakistan for Rs 1.5 lakhs, and used by Pakistan. Its name is DJI Phantom 3.
