Buying this trainer would be ridiculous unless we sell off the T-37's. We just got refurbished ones from the US. And unless we can sell them off its a waste of time to get any further trainers. The K-8's can serve as LIFT's for the time being.
Having different type's of jets for a similar job is a logistical nightmare.

Pakistan & Czech Republic sign MoU to boost defence cooperation
ISLAMABAD, Mar 24 (APP): Pakistan and Czech Republic on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to increase military and defence cooperation between the two countries.Minister for Defence Production, Abdul Qayyum Jatoi and the visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of Czech Republic Martin Bartak put signatures on the MoU on behalf of their countries here in the Ministry of Defence.

The MoU envisages to increase cooperation in the area of military training, exchange of military delegations and collaboration in the filed of defence production.
Earlier, the defence delegation led by Defence Minister of Czech Republic Martin Bartak called on Minister for Defence Production Abdul Qayyum Jatoi and exchanged views on matters pertaining to enhancement of defence cooperation.
They emphasized the need to promote broad spectrum bilateral cooperation covering all aspects including defence, trade and economy.
The meeting acknowledged the fact that both the countries had greater potential in the field of defence production which needed to be explored for the mutual benefits of the two sides.
The minister also highlighted the contribution made by Pakistan against the war on terror. He informed the delegation that Pakistan was committed to contain and uproot terrorism. He said that the fighting against terror had drained Pakistan’s economy and the International community was required to assist Pakistan in its efforts to combat and eliminate terrorism.
While appreciating the counter-terrorism measures taken by Pakistan, the Czech Defence Minister said Pakistan had been playing a key role against the war on terror and the international community needed to assist Pakistan in its endeavors against the war on terror.
Martin Bartak said his country was keen to promote closer partnership and meaningful defence cooperation with Pakistan.
He hoped that the MoU, signed between Pakistan and Czech Republic would pave a way for promoting and strengthening closer defence cooperation between the countries.

the L 159 AJT is considered one of the best trainers available today. why would the PAF opt for this type can mean two things

K-8 has no future due to its probable limitations and the chinese L-15 may not be meeting PAF requirements (surprisingly).

OTOH, the L-159 is an excellent COIN a/c. offers more than the K-8 in this role.

K8 is great plane , but we can also have other options variation is great ...

This is awsome news.. i rather have PAF go for these trainers then of the chinesse orgin in all due respect PAF needs to upgrade it self along with the world we need these brids good choice by PAF brass.

Main bulk of PAF fleet will still be western origin. almost 100 F-16s 100 JF-17s and 36+ FC-20 with western systems so a western trainer makes much more sense. Or i could be wrong.

All that Gilani has said is PAF could be interested in the plane. I equate this to a hidden "pull your socks up" type of jibe to our friends . L15 is on the cards as well.Is it that PAF wants specs or financial incentives which China is not offering? You dont just go and buy trainers like that. i would wait a bit before we make up our minds as to what PAF wants.c The other thing of note is the one pointed out by taimikhan. We need to wait and see.

I think the L-159 is not only as Trainer usefull, it's a light weight Fighter which is optimized for CAS Role. The L-159 could be usefull for Counter Insurgency Operation and for Anti-Tank Missions.

The L159 ALCA is based on the proven L39 Albatros and L59 family of basic and advanced jet trainers. It incorporates a high-performance military turbofan engine, advanced avionics and sensors. The operational capabilities of the aircraft include close air support, tactical reconnaissance, air defence, counter insurgency, border patrol, anti-ship missions, and lead-in fighter and weapons training.

The L159 Advanced Light Combat Aircraft (ALCA) was developed by Aero Vodochody to meet the Czech Air Force operational requirements for a light multi-role combat aircraft. The aircraft has "since been developed in the single-seat L159A and two-seat L159B versions. Much like Hawk-200 and Hawk-100, these version have complementary roles.

The Czech Air Force ordered 72 L159A aircraft, of which the first was delivered in April 2000 and the last by the end of 2003. The L159B completed its first flight in June 2002 and the Czech Air Force ordered two aircraft.
In July 2004, the Czech Ministry of Defence announced that it plans to reduce the number of L159 aircraft in service to 18 aircraft in operational service and six in reserve. The remaining part of the L159 fleet (47 aircraft, since one aircraft was lost during weapons trials at the Jince test range in the Czech Republic on February 24, 2003 due to pilot error) is to be sold.
In June 2006, Aero Vodochody was awarded a contract by the Czech Ministry of Defence to convert four single-seat L-159A aircraft to L-159B two-seaters. The first modified aircraft made its maiden flight in March 2007, and all four were delivered to the Czech Air Force in November 2007.
