Over 29,000 AK-47s procured for India's forces

India FOB did produce AKs, it is called A-7, army rejected it.

And to the one who abuses INSAS, it is okay with Indian Army. No problem and suitable to our doctrine.

AKs are made in Pak's tribal area like knifes then why dont Pak army induct it throwing out their Pst WW2 model heavy rifle\?

5.56, - have seen the insas, up close and personal, was not very impressed - it does have shortcomings especially the 5.56 round, does not have enough stopping power, is liable to jam if not cleaned very regularly, does mis-behave slightly, when it gets hot, with accuracy going down.

Overall not very impressive.

If you talk about power than there is no better rifle than AK's but accuracy is main problem in Ak-47/AKM. that's why indian armynot preferred to use Ak-47 in conventional war however Ak-47 is one of the best for close combat war. Low power is main problem of INSAS but range and accuracy is one of the best in the world, Because of that Our army Still prefer to use INSAS.

5.56 and 7.62 rounds have 2 different philosophies behind it. The first one is for accurate long range wounding shot while the latter is for short range killing shot. Also being lighter, soldiers can carry more 5.56 rounds with them when compared to heavier 7.62 rounds. But I heard NATO is thinking of moving to an intermediate round.

G3 variants are still used by NATO... Also we produce various variants of G3A3s with grenade launchers, telescope,NVG,laster pointers etc... and also produce various range of weapons including MP-5 variants,PSG-90 sniper rifles,MG-3 LMGs,DShK HMGs and AK VARIANTS:

Not only do our Tribals make AKM's but so does our POF, our version is called the PK-10 i believe.

Dude who cares what we use?? What ever we use, the results always favors us...so who cares if we use a stick or a ray gun if we are gonna win in the end?? :P

Why is India not manufacturing her own weapons? Why do you import most of your military hardware. Too much would hang in the balance if you are committed to an extended war, logistics and supply would definitely be a problem.

We make our own. May be this import is due to the need of faster delivery coupled with lower capital costs.

FN FALs are withdrawn from service and now handed down to paramilitary/police.

As for machine guns we have cartridge fed INSAS LMG and belt fed FN MAG

In the spare times he gets when not driving Aston Martin over Europe on secret covert missions he usually rides on Leopard tanks in the deserts of Chile or fly F-15 strike eagles @ MAch2.

Its unusual that he fancies AK47s nowadays.

I really got to you, didn't I fella. ;)

1,000 years of domination, says otherwise.

Ever thought why 5.56 was selected in the first place ?

Of course I do, it was designed to overwhelm an enemy's logistics by injuring masses of soldiers, rather than killing them, but it doesn't help you, when your down low, in a nasty fire fight, the last thing you need is a guy, who carries on firing, even after you put a few rounds in him.

Also the 5.56 INSAS round loses a lot of kinetic energy, it really tells in ranges, upwards of 200m.

What you are describing is a CQB and 5.56 bullet is not meant for this.
