Word is that the Argentine Air Force is likely to buy either J-10 or JF-17 as next generation fighter
We do not know which variant will be bought.
Seeing that RAF has four Eurofighter stationed on Falklands Islands, here are some likely options for Argentine Air Force:
- J-10B:
This is probably what most nations who are buying the J-10 will be buying. It features AESA, IRST, RAM, and more. Its powerful radar, materials, stealthy design, will give it an air to air advantage over the Eurofighter both BVR and WVR.
- JF-17 Block II:
4.5 generation upgrade of JF-17 with AESA and diamond nose. Although unlikely to have agility advantage over Eurofighter, this plane would boast a high BVR ability, with its small RCS and AESA radar.
- J-10A:
This would be suitable if J-10B is too expensive. Its agility rivals that of the Super Hornet, which would be enough for Argentina's needs if the J-10As are used defensively.
- J-2X:
If they are willing to pay, why not? J-2X is single engine variant of the J-20. Eurofighters are no problem for these.
