Operation Tirah Valley | News & Updates

Tirah Valley needs to be controlled, as militants running away from Orakzai go to either NWA or mostly to Tirrah Valley and use it for hit & run tactics.

exactly my point - run and hide and then attack the GLOC whereever they are - for militants its not an issue. they have their logistics to move fast - and yes Tirah op is at NATO's behest bcuz they have been after us to do so for a long time and also to go into NWA - that my opinion.

Ohh sir ji, kindly understand, tirah is not a feasible location to launch any kind of attacks on the GLOC. That route is impossible to get attacked from Tirah. More attacks on the NATO supply trucks have happened in and around Peshawar compared to attacks on the route inside Khyber Agency. The GLOC goes through the Jamrud & landikotal tehsil areas. Then you have Bara tehsil, notorious for LeI guys and beyond Bara tehsil you have this Tirah Valley.

Provided below is the link to Google map, the yellow line is the GLOC route used to transport NATO supplies.

Google Maps

And Tirah is on the left of this route, some 65-80KM away if you draw a straight line towards the Kurram / Orakzai Border.

Thus is has nothing to do with NATO withdrawal, as attacks on the NATO line are still happening and will keep continuing even if the Tirah Operation continues.

LANDI KOTAL: A lieutenant colonel of Pakistan Army was killed when he stepped over an explosive device during a search operation in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency on Wednesday.

The ISPR (Inter-Services Public Relations) said in a statement that Lt Col Sajid Mushtaq was leading an operation to clear the Gulbai area of Maidan when an improvised explosive device exploded in a house. Lt Col Mushtaq died on the spot.

The operation was launched after government forces had pushed militants out of the area.

The body of Lt Col Mushtaq was airlifted to Peshawar from where it would be taken to Lahore for funeral to be held on Thursday.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

Meanwhile, Dawn has learnt from independent sources that the bodies of 23 militants were lying in the Dwa Thoe area. But it is not known when these militants were killed.

The army on June 9 claimed to have killed 35 militants in three days of fighting.

The ISPR said that government forces had cleansed about 50 per cent of the area of the Taliban.

Bagh and Maidan area of Tirah are now in Pak Army control. Pak flag raised.

It was a tough job, alot of casualties, alot of problems, in the end Pak Army has flushed out TTP from another area in FATA...another one in the long list of successful ops conducted against TTP.

BARA: After taking over the Maidan area in Tirah valley, security forces have opposed the re-emergence of Ansarul Islam (AI), a banned militant organisation, once in full control of the area, and asked the local people to hoist Pakistan¡¯s flag on their houses and buildings instead of the flag of any militant organisation.

"The head and deputy head of AI -- Qazi Mehboob and Ezatullah -- have gone underground after they failed to reactivate the armed organisation," said an ex-commander of the AI on condition of anonymity.

He said that security forces were not in favour of reactivating the AI and giving a role to its leaders as they had lost the support of the local population after being defeated by the TTP in March 2013. Now, the security forces are supporting the defence committees formed by Shalobar and Malikdinkhel Afridi tribes to maintain security in Maidan area," he said.

Kaptan Afridi, once remained the close aide of Ezatullah and Qazi Mehboob, and now a senior member of Shalobar defence committee, said that at present neither local people nor the security forces were in favour of AI to come back to Maidan. "Now, we have formed peace bodies to fill the vacuum and maintain law and order in the area," he added.

In a recent meeting with the leaders of defence committees in Peshawar, security officials warned them against playing any role in the reactivation of AI and using its flag in Maidan, said another member of peace committee. The recently-formed Shalobar and Malikdinkhel peace committees are headed by Taj Malook and Haji Nasib, respectively. Talking to this scribe, local people said that security forces cleared the Maidan area, the homeland of Zakhakhel, Shalobar, Qambarkhel, Malikdinkhel and Adamkhel Afridi, of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan on Wednesday and hoisted the Pakistani flag on the central and historical old Bagh area of the valley.

"Except of Parel and Inqilabi Sar in the east, now all the key tops of Maidan are in control of Pakistan army which has pushed back the TTP militants to Kukikhel area of the valley," a local Dawlat Khan told The News on Sunday.Kaptan said that more than 5,0000 internally displaced persons from Maidan would be asked soon to return to their homes after security forces cleared the area of landmines.

However, he said that many of the families might not be able to return to their houses as more than 2,000 houses had been torched by the TTP before leaving the area. He said the peace committee had proposed to the government and security agencies to pay Rs1 million for each destroyed house and provide ration to each family for a period of six months.

and a recent trend in ISPR release, they show small amount of causality being occurring in "KHYBER AGENCY". So far complete media blackout on how much casualty army suffered in Tirah due to incompetence of Mission planner

Because mafiya if they don't apply such strategy, then we all can imagine that how our immature, irresponsible media is gonna make fuss of it...in order to increase their channel rating, they are gonna create 'hype'.
Instead of discussing in healthy manner that what possible strategies could be applied to avoid such casualties ..they are gonna project this images that 'we are loosing war' just to add color and intensity to increase viewership and to make money.
Even Americans applied same strategy..as such type of 'hype' effects negatively to operations in indirect manner, reducing moral of army.

Now is the time to re-open Bara Market for businesses. It's been closed since long time... jobless people easily get manipulated and readily available to become fools & fodders..

Mangal bagh alive and kicking in Tirah valley, He is still strong and issuing his fatwas to Tirah valley residents on his FM radio!

So what? We know from ISPR that our flag flies over the minar in Maidan. That should be enough, right?
