Operation Tirah Valley | News & Updates

It seems Pak army underestimated mangal bagh....they use knowledge of the terrain ....people need to know that british suffered 1150 casaulties in tirah campaign of 1890.

Or credit should be given to uzbek militants from TTP , who are deadliest among all partners of TTP

Casualty rate shooted up initially because there was no air cover and units were sent in blind without credible intel or recce

If the above is true, then to launch such an operation without effective air cover is a mistake. What might be the causes for such an apparent oversight? At least now, with the unnecessarily expensive lesson learned, we hope that our troops out in the field are now being provided with the air cover need to make their mission a success.

And from soldiers mouth, it seems recent events suggest Pakistan Army is using soldiers as fodder cannons in tirah valley

Captain Hassan Javaid Shaheed contacted his family on 28th May, 2013. His last words to his family were:
"yahan halaat kafi kharab hein, muqabla bht sakht hai, Unho ne humain chaaron taraf se ghaira hua hai, kudrat he hai jo humain zinda le aye. bs dua karna."

and a recent trend in ISPR release, they show small amount of causality being occurring in "KHYBER AGENCY". So far complete media blackout on how much casualty army suffered in Tirah due to incompetence of Mission planner

PA soldiers were surrounded by Militants from all around. A herk could have been sent who would have mapped the battle zone with GPS coordinate embedded in those mappings. This GPS coordinates could have been effectively utilized to neutralize the cordon of TTP.

If money is excuse, then they should not have started the Tirah OP.

So the entire valley is not yet under control of our Army, but only some of the higher grounds? It appears that progress is quite difficult. I hope that our planners are able to reduce some of the difficulties our troops are facing in the theater of operations.

Dear, its not one valley only. Tirah valley is the name given to all small and large valleys around River Bara. River Bara flows through Tirah valley and the area of Tirah valley is around 700 sq. miles. Maidan, Rajgul, Waran, Bara and Mastura are 5 major valleys of the area. PA is taking a very well thought approach of capturing strategic heights instead of going all out offensive. If you read the press release above you will note that by just capturing Darastani ridge PA have now got effective control of Maidan and Kuki Khel valley. In latest operation the casualty rate is also very low. In my view that is a successful approach.

The main fight was for the higher ground as I know, the peaks. The thinking was that if the peaks were captured in the earlier stages, the follow on would be much easier since the PA would have a vantage point.

Finally a press release, and good to know that peaks are finally captured.

the control of tirah valley will ensure safe passage for NATO war material as it withdraws.

Nops Sir, the route through which the NATO material comes and goes is far away from the Tirah Valley. Tirah valley is something which borders the Orakzai Agency / Kurram Agency and Orakzai Agency / Kurram Agency borders the NWA, consider it a corridor. Orakzai Agency is bordered by 3 FATA agencies, NWA is on its left, Kurram Agency is on its front position and Khyber Agency's Tirah Valley borders it from the right side, for any military operation to succeed in Orakzai & to control the flow of militants from NWA, Tirah Valley needs to be controlled, as militants running away from Orakzai go to either NWA or mostly to Tirrah Valley and use it for hit & run tactics.

If you are trying to give an impression that operation in Tirah Valley is on behest of NATO's withdrawal of war material purpose, its wrong. Tirah Valley has nothing to do with that withdrawal route, its miles away and all the attacks happen from the guys already residing in Jamrud / Landikotal areas which consist of the route for Afghanistan the much know Khyber Pass.

Operation in Tirah Valley is launched after it was apparent that militants were running away from Orakzai and taking refuge in Tirah, thus even if we did controlled all of Orakzai, the left flank will be open for militants from the NWA side and right flank will be open to militants in Tirah to launch operations on military in Orakzai.

exactly my point - run and hide and then attack the GLOC whereever they are - for militants its not an issue. they have their logistics to move fast - and yes Tirah op is at NATO's behest bcuz they have been after us to do so for a long time and also to go into NWA - that my opinion.
