Operation Rah-e-Nijat (South Waziristan)

"As for the citizenry of pakistan be subservient to the army is a bit uncalled for by the esteemed member of the forum. Survey after survey has shown the people of Pakistan want democracy and i think people in the military get that."

Kidwaibhai,

I'd be happy to read these surveys if you'll provide the links. Dates will be important but I'll be able to determine that. You, however, should consider dates when selecting your surveys.

You might, meanwhile, consider a survey here. I suspect you'll be dismayed by what you see if so. Finally, even were it so both elsewhere and here, I've seen little to indicate from your armed forces any such subservience to a civil head of state nor any such faith by your current civilian government that they have the unabashed and unconditional obedience of the armed forces.

Comments and actions by your military of late suggest otherwise. I, btw, have little faith in this particular civilian government. Some are outright idiots within its administration. Others with a past more suitable to white-collar criminals. Still, it's a process of educating both leaders and lead to reach a condition of functionality and will not happen overnight.

America also learns and progresses. Our african-American president is, perhaps, overdue but it could be seen coming. He wouldn't have been MY african-American choice but he is my President and commander-in-chief and is honored as such by our country...

...until the next elections where his leadership shall be affirmed for one (and only one) more term or terminated then and there. We await our first female president, unlike you but that day is coming I imagine and will be less a function of her gender and more of her perceived abilities.

Thanks and looking forward to your links...:usflag:

Guys! Can we stick to the topic at hand i.e. Operation Rah-e-Nijat in SWA. Clearly discussion between S-2 and some other members are heading towards pure political topics which can be discussed in some other threats of this forum.

It is not the job of the Army to "build and develop.

Interesting words here PAFAce. Reminds me of some words said in spirit of the same everytime the PA overthrew the incumbent DEMOCRATIC government.
Also really puts into perspective your CI strategy. Interesting indeed to see deployment of overwhelming firepower leading to substantial infrastructural (howsoever rudimentary) damage in addition to loss of non-combatant life with no accountability whatsoever for own actions. No wonder you quote Talibs at strengths of 10,000 and beyond!!!!

As for "hold", we will do so for as long as we see fit, as we are currently in northern FATA and NWFP.

To hold you will have to induct further troops in, do you have the resolve of further denting your operational readiness vis-vis India in light of Rehman Maliks amusing statement??:cheesy:

Secondly, Ms. Perlez may have done well to please audience such as yourself considering that her prime sources seem to be unnamed "military specialists", anonymous "diplomats", a former disgruntled Pakistani ambassador to the US who lost his job due to a military coup in 1999 (hmm... I wonder why he doesn't support the Army?)and a retired Army officer who has made a career out of statements such as "the militants have humiliated the Army in Swat" etc. But, anything that badmouths Pakistanis has got to be credible, right sir? At least in the"to hell with Pakistan, bomb 'em back to the stone age" school of thought.

Anyone who questions your skewed approach is "disgruntled"

As for Kashmir, they are quite capable of fighting for their rights without the Taleban, and we have the intent, will and capability of supporting them in this fight.

Interesting thoughts. Old news! We know it. But seems you are busy with your own war for now .... and fighting 10,000 + combatants now ...... we dont have that big a problem ......!!!

Before starting your childish rant, it would have been better to have looked at your own Chadambaram, SM Krishna & other politicians, whose fingers are pointing at Pakistan even when the bang of a fire cracker spreads the deadly scare of a militant attack in India.

Oh yes true enough. We look at them everyday ..... but whats interesting is that atleast what we say sticks up .... what you, does not !!!!!

Plus the past accusations by pointing at Pakistan & then the reality that the bomb blasts had been done by Hindu extremists & involvement of serving Indian army officers coming to light is a very good testament to the acceptable standard of adults in India..

and found to be false. atleast we have the guts to get after our own guilty......until proven innocent!!!

I don't think S-2 reflect US as they are not P@ki hater's like him, Clinton visit reflect friendly relation ship between both.

I live in USA but i will say one thing which is that. S-2 has a totally zionist mentality, People like him will justify any and every wrong doing of US/ Israel's forces yet they believe in human rights. Breaking countries and pushing wars into other countries and letting innocents get killed is ok and less worthy of an American soul. S-2 have been living in fantasy world where, No one is good but USA/Israel. It's sick and disturbing....:pakistan::usflag::china::smitten:

Thanks. I'm appreciative and will look at them immediately.

Forces advance on TTP strongholds
October 28, 2009

ISLAMABAD (AFP/Reuters) – Pakistan claimed Tuesday to have killed 42 Taliban in some of the heaviest fighting of a major offensive in South Waziristan.

Warplanes and helicopters waged multiple bombing sorties for an 11th day against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in South Waziristan.
Jet fighters and helicopter gunships pounded Ladha and Makin in South Waziristan on Tuesday, where ground troops hope to encircle militant bastions after claiming to have captured strategic mountaintops and villages.

The military, which is so far the only source of casualty figures, said 42 militants and one soldier were killed, bringing to 239 the total number of insurgents and to 31 the number of troops to have died during the operation.

Security forces surround Nawazkot, one of the Taliban’s strongholds, and militants were killed in fighting on the approach to Taliban bastion Sararogha to the east and Kanigurram further south, the army said.
Around 30,000 troops are pitted against an estimated 10-12,000 militants in the semi-autonomous and lawless tribal belt but experts say far more soldiers are needed for a successful counter-insurgency campaign.

More than 125,000 people have been registered since fleeing South Waziristan since October 13, UN refugee agency spokeswoman Arianne Rummery told AFP.

“They join the other 80,500 people which were previously registered. So this means the total registered caseload in terms of families is 28,242, which is around 206,000 people,” she said.

Families began fleeing South Waziristan in late May when the military embarked on a campaign of air strikes ahead of the anticipated ground assault, but Rummery said the numbers could go down after verification is complete.

“The volatile security situation constrains our movement,” she said.
Apparently trying to distract troops from South Waziristan, militants attacked a checkpoint much further north in the lawless tribal belt overnight. The raid in Mohmand killed two troops, officials said Tuesday.

Some 30 militants stormed the post at Baizai village. In retaliation, the security forces killed six militants, a paramilitary official told AFP.

A senior government official in the town of Tank, the gateway to South Waziristan, told Reuters that militants had begun fleeing to neighbouring regions, a claim backed up by ordinary residents.
“I saw Uzbeks and Pakistani militants in Mir Ali as well as on my way,” a tribesman, Majeed Mehsud, told Reuters.

Highly unlikely. The army under General Kiyani i believe will refrain from any such action because we all know how unpopular the "state instutution" became under Pres. Musharraff for such acts

So IMHO, there is little to very little chance of an emeergency being imposed

All I can see in your post is self-deluding claims.

US Pressure? Really? So the US pressurized Rahman Malik to make whatever wild claims he wants to, and then forbade him from releasing any evidence? Do they have a vested interest in making Pakistani politicians look stupid? Or does Rahman Malik have a vested interest in deluding his flock? Which is it?

"its just a matter of time" --- yeah rite. We've been hearing fairy tales about the existence of this proof for many years now. If the past is anything to go by, one will expect even more baseless allegations in the future with nothing to back it up.
I also love hearing about the dozens of "Indian Agents" and "Uncircumcised fighters" that get caught in Pakistan. I wonder why we never hear of them again. Maybe the Americans make them disappear eh?
