Also what are going to happen to those newly decommissioned ships like FFG-33 (decommissioned on 11 May 2011) and FFG-39 (decommissioned on 29 July 2011), they were listd as status: stricken, to be disposed of by the Security Assistance Program (SAP), Anyone want to buy them, or are they going to be involved in some "target practice sessions"?

And FFG-53 (decommissioned back on 10 Dec 2010?), its status: stricken, to be disposed of, retain as logistics support asset? meaning it is going to be cannibalised as spare-parts hulk?

33 and 39 may go to Taiwan via FMS. 53 is spares

With out the weapons systems the ship is a liability , indeed but if we can upgrade these with Chinese Missiles and torpedoes perhaps we have a case to get 5 more but having F22P is also a great addition or the Type054 class larger frigates / destroyers

In current complicated PAK_US relation, I doubt, we will get any other spare/retired US frigate of this class.
However, addition of new frigate and missile boats are good addition and this should continue steadily.
Slow and steady wins the race.

Second pic look like VLS (vertical Launched system) on Alamgir.
But, VLS was removed by US.So any one can help me what this is?

Nah... not VLS. That big circular stuff is just the sealed base of the single-arm Mk 13 Missile Launcher, after its removal due to the retirement of the SM-1 missile from the US service.

From the picture, it looks like they just put some metal caps/seals on, (noticing those 3 holes, the large hole is for loading SM-1 missiles from underneath...) then welded into place, to prevent rain/sea water getting in. Perry class was designed not to have a frontal main gun, although from the picture, it shows they installed 2 tripod machine gun mounts on each side of the forward deck, for anti-piracy/patrol related missions.

And about that rectangular space on the deck, that is the space reserved for installing VLS, however USA never installed any MK 41 launchers on their own Perry class ships. Australia only installed VLS upgrades on the newer hulls, which were specially built for Australia, the upgrade included an 8-cell Mk 41 launchers + ESSM, updating Mk 13 single arm launchers firing SM-2 missiles, other upgrades like radar/EW gear, etc., however, they spent roughly 2 years and 1 billion Australian dollars just for upgrading 4 ships, not sure about the cost effectiveness.

On a side note, now that 1 Australian dollar = 0.9877 U.S. dollars, so they are roughly the same.

1 billion US dollar nowadays can get you roughly 4 brand new 4000-ton class 054A frigates.

no, no one's getting any type 54A....however we might get two type 54 as PLAN is moving on to type 54A.

can anyone point out where the phalanx system is?
did they remove it? i cant see it on the boat...

Yeah, they removed the Phalanx CIWS, only a 76mm cannon left amidship on the roof forward of the funnel...

Get a life. There never was a VLS on the Perry class. Only quite recently have some Australian an Turkish units been given a single Mk41. If you can't research this up front, don't bother posting.

USNn ship NEVER were planned to have Mk41. The white rectangular outline on the forward desk near the bow is a VERTREP area. Australia initiated the Mk41 forward modification. That modernization program is much behind. ANd some would say the RAN would have been better of getting 4 Kidd-class destroyers (which eventually found their way into the Taiwanese navy)

That Mk41 launcher means nothing without upgrading of the command system and illuminators.

Assumptions. It may just as well be that PN stipulated the USN to remove the Phalanx, and for it to be replaced (eventually) with a PN Phalanx taken from retiring Type 21 frigates. This would be more economical for PN.

type 21 wont be retiring for a while, however i believe the PN has 'surplus' Phalanx systems with them.
