I think the article is kind of unfair and desperate to find poverty in Chinese cities for years...

Poverty and homeless people are always exist everywhere even in the developed countries.

Also, not all poor people in China live in the slums. Many live in the countryside, working in farms.

I do not understand your point. What about these pictures. If it is in Vietnam, as you seems to prove, it is certainly in the South of Vietnam. In North Vietnam, there was never anything like this.

Even in the South of Vietnam, slums have been eradicated at good speed, and I do not think these pictures were taken recently. They look like 15 years ago.

The ugliest house in mainland at worst is unmaintained old buildings, that have been labeled to be demolished.
