We have multitudes of data coming from Census, nationwide non-census representative studies (NHDS, official governmental housing-database etc), and other various organizations doing surveys for consumer behavior reasons. Experts look at these multitudes of data (meta data analysis) and publish their results---and those results can be analysed to project future mega trends.

So far, demographic projections have been extremely accurate. We can study today's young population and project how the future will look like.

Muslims, globally, are very practicing religious group in general whereever they are. Even in "secular" countries like Turkey, the population is pretty practicing especially compared to other religious groups.

Offcourse, religious practice varies from person to person, from region to region----however, overall, Muslim populations are very practicing of Islam globally (even in the U.S, which has THE MOST secularized/liberal Muslim population anywhere on planet)

I know them very well. I have Russians in my family. They are white but I would NEVER count them as European in the sense of being Western. Mr. Putin, however, speaks about Eurasia rather than Europe when he talks about the Russian identity. But they are no Eurasians either. You will confirm this if you know them. Most of Western world do not have any "Religious" census since ever... therefore the bit of data is only based on previous centers work and their "Sample"...
But in France per exemple... we do have restricted datas of "Name distribution" ... and "Islamic" related ones are "according" to recent studies on the data... Superior to PEW numbers... or like the open Data of "New Born Names". Where Islamic related ones are btw 18% to 20+%. Of course it doesn't represent current numbers but it's a glimpse at the "Demographic projection in at least Muslim pop" Something Pew didn't have.

Russia like Turkey is a transcontinental country if I remember reading the article that was pretty famous in academic circles a decade ago was titled "Clash of Civlizations" it labeled Russia and Turkey as torn countries meaning they are not Asian nor European however Turkey is much more homogenous like 90 percent of the population is Turkish while the 10 percent is like Kurdish in the SouthEast but Russia is like 80 percent Slavic yet the Slavic population is full decline since Soviet times and Russia has more ethnic republics also this as result of a carrot method to keep them in line also much of the gas and oil are in those republics.
