Please avoid making more threads.

Yes, one more exercise just done by our navy in Egypt looks like our navy is operating in full momentum. The navy is becoming very capable day by day. The navy is also getting very advanced technology such as P-3C Orions, 2 Perry Class Ships, Spruance Class Destroyer, and etc.

This is a good news that our country is now focussing on navy to make PN one capable navy in the world.

Pakistan-China joint naval exercise next Week
PakistanTimes.net Monitoring Desk

BEIJING (China): Pakistan and China will hold second joint naval exercise next week in the Arabian sea close to Karachi coast.

A fleet of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has already left towards the Arabian Sea via northern zone to join the Pakistan Navy.

Credible sources said here that the Chinese naval fleet comprised two ships, a missile destroyer and helicopters. It will be the first ever combined maritime drill by the Chinese navy in alien sea areas, likely to take place from November 21 to 24.

The two navies will focus on items in non-traditional areas, such as joint search-and-rescue operation. A large number of sailors and officers from both sides will take part in the exercise in the efforts to strengthen their decades old military-to-military relations and further enhance their professional skill.

Perspective

The two countries conducted their first-ever exercise in November 2003 near the Shanghai coast. It was the first time Chinese naval forces held a joint exercise with a foreign counterpart since the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Now the Chinese side will be visiting the Pakistan’s seawater to have the similar drill.

Sources say, as a part of long-standing bilateral cooperation in the defence field, the two countries have been maintaining frequent exchanges to benefit from each other experience, strengthening their defence potential.

The cooperation between two navies covered various areas of the mutual interest.

According to a decision taken in July this year, China will provide four F-22P advanced quality frigates to Pakistan by 2013.

Of these, three will be manufactured in China, while one frigate will be built in Pakistan. It is hoped that the first frigate will be available to Pakistan Navy within a period of three and half years.

Besides this, the Chinese side will also provide six medium-size standardised helicopters (Z-9C) to Pakistan Navy.●

Chinese ships arrive for wargame

KARACHI, Nov 21: Two Chinese Navy ships arrived here on Monday to carry out first-ever joint exercise with the Pakistan Navy outside the Chinese territorial waters. This was announced in a press release of the ISPR (Navy) issued here on Monday.

It said that ships ‘Shenzhen’, a guided missile destroyer, and ‘Weishanhu’, an auxiliary tanker, were given unprecedented warm welcome upon their entry into Pakistani waters.

Rear Admiral Han Linzhi is commanding the Task Force. On their arrival at Karachi harbour, the ships fired a gun salute, it was responded by 21 gun salute from PN Marine base-PNS Qasim.

Chinese ships were escorted by PN Frigates. On the occasion, PN ships berthed in harbour were dressed overall in the traditional naval costumes and Pakistan Navy held a warm welcoming ceremony at the berth.

Commander coastal area Rear Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed received Rear Admiral Han Linzhi. He was presented guard of honour by a smart contingent of the Pakistan Navy.

A PN band played folk and traditional music and children from various schools chanted slogans of Pak-China friendship.

During their stay, the ships will participate in joint exercises with PN, which would encompass operational sea exercises in harbour and at sea.

Main feature of the exercises will be to rehearse immediate and collective response to large scale disasters like tsunami.

This interaction would also afford an opportunity to experience operations with Chinese technology in connection with acquisition of F-22 P frigates.

During his stay at Karachi, the Chinese admiral will call on governor Sindh. He will also meet the commands of PN at Karachi and visit PN fleet units.—APP

Date: 25/11/2005
Agency: United News of India
Topics: pakistan china military

Karachi: The marine phase of a China-Pakistan naval exercise commenced in the Arabian Sea today on the conclusion of harbour drills.

Surface ships along with helicopters were pitched and tested in wartime scenario including the rehearsal of a collective response to large-scale disasters like tsunami.

The joint exercise also included search and rescue from helicopters, advanced manoeuvres and cross deck transfers, etc.

The exercise offered an excellent opportunity to the two country's navies to refine interoperability and tactical proficiency, a Pakistan navy spokesman said.

Officers and men from both sides got a chance to dwell upon their standard operating procedures and figure out areas where improvement could be made.

For the Pakistani Navy, it was a perfect setting to closely monitor the characteristics and operational capabilities of Chinese technology, the spokesman said.

With ''Chinese ships already in its inventory, Pakistan Navy has shaped its course for acquisition of F-22 P frigates,'' he added.

Pakistan is to buy four F-22P frigates from China by year 2013 with the first ship entering the service by end of 2008. Three ships will be built in China while the fourth one will be constructed by indigenously by Pakistani experts

India, China to conduct joint naval drills

New Delhi, November 25, 2005 (IANS)

The Indian Navy is gearing up for a rare engagement next week with Chinese warships in Indian waters that will reflect a growing thaw in bilateral military ties despite an unsettled border dispute between the two countries.

The Chinese missile destroyer Shenzhen and supply ship Weishanhu will conduct naval drills with Indian warships in waters off Kochi in Kerala, marking only the second joint military exercise between the two sides. But it will be the first time that Chinese forces will join manoeuvres in Indian territory.

The Indian Navy top brass is looking forward to the engagement even as the force works to establish itself as a major factor for peace and stability in the Indian Ocean.

"These will be exercises at a very basic level as we still know very little about each other," Indian Navy spokesman Commander Vinay Garg said.

"But such exercises always help to improve military-to-military relations."

The Chinese warships will sail into Indian waters following weeklong manoeuvres with the Pakistani Navy to train for search and rescue missions.

India and China conducted their first joint naval exercise off Shanghai in November 2003, several months after then defence minister George Fernandes and prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Beijing to boost bilateral ties.

Next week's naval manoeuvres at Kochi will be the latest in a flurry of military drills India has conducted this year with the forces of major nations like France and the US as part of its efforts to establish its role as a regional power.

Earlier this month, US F-16 fighters drilled along with Indian combat jets in West Bengal, while Indian warships conducted a major naval exercise with the French Navy in the waters off Djibouti during a deployment in the Gulf of Aden.

Though military ties between India and China went into a tailspin following their brief but bitter border war in 1962, Beijing has given the clearance to its defence establishment to forge closer ties with India's armed forces.

Chinese experts have described the upcoming naval drills with India as a reflection of the concept of "seeking security through cooperation".

China's Ambassador Sun Yuxi said last month that fighting terrorism and piracy in regional waters could be the focus of future joint military exercises. He also pointed to several other indicators of the burgeoning military relations, including the exchange of observers for exercises and high-level visits.

Indian defence officials admit that the development of military ties with China has been plagued by years of suspicion as well as lesser issues like language.

But they believe India's need to forge greater cooperation with the Chinese Navy to battle piracy and gun-running in regional waters could serve as the springboard for more broad-based ties.

Pakistan, Saudi Navies to Hold Exercises

Mohammed Rasooldeen, Arab News

RIYADH, 28 November 2005 — Pakistani and Saudi Arabian navies will hold joint exercises in the Arabian Sea off Karachi from today, Pakistani ambassador said yesterday.

“The two navies will engage in war games and other exercises aimed at enhancing technical know-how, communications, understanding and war techniques, Ambassador Rear Adm. (retd.) Abdul Aziz Mirza said.

The Saudi naval ships, around half a dozen in number, will be mainly missile crafts, officials told INP. They will be welcomed in Karachi with a 21-gun salute.

“We will first do the harbor phase and then go for deep sea exercises in the first week of December,” Mirza said.

The commander of Saudi Naval Task Force, Rear Adm. Sammi ibn Mansoor Al-Rafi, is already in Karachi.

“Saudis are mainly interested in enhancing their defensive capabilities,” said an official.

The Pakistan Navy has sent a number of warships to Saudi Arabia in the past. Presently a Pakistani frigate, Badr (PNS 181), is at a Saudi port. Last week, Pakistani and Chinese navies held joint naval exercises in the Arabian Sea.

Military sources said Pakistan will get four F-22P frigates and six Z-9C helicopters from China to improve the navy’s capabilities. In November 2003, a Pakistani squad held the first joint exercise with the Chinese Navy in the East China Sea.

ISLAMABAD: The national flag will proudly wave atop a Pakistani ship in the Arabian Sea when the country takes over command of the Coalition Maritime Security (CMS) in April 2006.

The duration of the command will be nearly five months and this will be the first time that Pakistan will be sharing the honour with world navies to command the coalition of an international maritime force.

The region's aspiring naval power, India, is not included in the Maritime Coalition, which also includes nine naval powers such as the United States, Britain and Germany.

"Indeed this is a big honour. The task of the CMS will be two-fold, i.e. to carry out anti-terrorist activities to ensure that terrorists do not use the sea for travelling and also to ensure a role in anti-narcotics activities," DG ISPR General Shaukat Sultan told The News.

At present, the Pakistan Army has its hands full while contributing in the war against terrorism in Waziristan and fighting back militants in Balochistan. While the Pakistan Air Force has also played a limited role in the war against terrorism, this will be the first time that the "Men in White" will play such a leading international role in the maritime part of the war against terrorism.

Some in the government are a bit upset that German Defence Minister Dr Franz-Josef Jung stole their thunder and they were denied the chance of making a formal announcement.

"The brief is ready and we are going to make an announcement at an appropriate time" is how one official in the Navy commented.

He was hesitant to give details of Pakistan's role in the CMS as the brief had not been cleared as yet for the public.

It is rather surprising that though the German defence minister hinted at Pakistan's role and the Ministry of Defence gave details of the CMS, the Pakistan Navy chose to still wait for an appropriate time. It would have certainly helped its image if it had then immediately released details to media.

While the decision by Pakistan to command the CMS was taken about two months ago, the modalities are still being worked out. The name of the rear admiral who will lead the CMS is still awaiting approval by the Pakistan Navy.

Western defence sources say the rear admiral will be shore-based at the operational headquarters in Bahrain, while a captain will be at the helm of the Pakistani ship. The Pakistani contingent will comprise about 300 officers and sailors.
