The orders will be places over time for limited numbers ie 4 here 6 there until the IN has the above fleet by 2022-5.Heard that IN is looking to have a total of about 30 P-8Is means ordering about 22 more in near future...
Yes mate the IN also has a medium range MPA requirement for which the likes of the above are in the fray.Also heard of Medium and small ones like Saab-2000s, ATR-72s and others and for small ones C-295, C-27J and other which will be in good numbers as well.

2nd P-8I is now undergoing test flights as is the 3rd P-8I for the IN. IRC the plan is for 3 P-8I to be delivered in 2013 and the remaining 5 (of the orginal contract for 8) to be delivered by mid-2015.didn't someone posted pic of 2nd P-8I few days ago??how many of them already manufactured??and any news of BAMS drones???P-8I with BAMS will be deadly combination..

Boeing India - P-8ICustomer
The Indian navy is the first international customer for the P-8. Boeing signed a contract Jan. 1, 2009, to deliver eight long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft to the Indian navy. Boeing will deliver the first P-8I within 48 months of contract signing, and the remaining seven by 2015.
India's immediate need is for eight aircraft, but Boeing believes there is long-term potential for additional aircraft sales.
