Myanmar Navy starts submarine training in Pakistan

Either that or they'll buy something from the Chinese..one of their newer subs maybe..they're getting close to the Russians too and the Russians are keeping up the Kilo production line going with Vietnam and could help out Burma too..that will send some hackles up. A new built Kilo, specially with greater automation and a better sonar complex is a demon beneath the waves..we've been pitting them (zero-lifed) against our own Type209 1500 variant (that's one of the best conventional ones in the game) and they still keep pace and match em'.

Lets see. Burma as I said has opened some gates for itself and natural gas and shale can go a long way in getting people to give you stuff.

new sub will cost them heavy around 250 million, are you serious they will go for new one ? :undecided:

Who knows..they've never shied away from spending on their military and as we all know its always possible to get aid for such purchases and IF Russia wants to keep the Kilo line going they might even agree to deffer the payment. It all depends on what Burma wants..they've even poked us seriously on the Panchendriya sonar complex and HUMSA NG..it irked us considering they didn't have subs and probably won't at least for a few years. Needless to say we sat on our hands and instead got them talking about Sitwe.

Burma isn't the most transparent country out there..so who knows..but they have a thing for new fangled stuff..a country that size and with that sort of an economy doesn't even generally have an air-force of the size that Burma keeps around. 26 Fulcrums and the same numbers of F-7ms and now with everyone wanting to court them they can go on a minor shopping spree. So ya they're not shy when it comes to spending.

A small contingent of Myanmar Navy (MN) personnel has begun submarine warfare training in Pakistan, a move that suggests Myanmar is finally taking concrete steps towards developing a subsurface capability.

Around 20 officers and ratings arrived in Karachi in late April/early May to begin basic familiarisation training with the Pakistan Navy (PN), according to diplomatic sources. It is likely the contingent is based at the PN's Submarine Training Centre at PNS Bahadur, an onshore facility in Karachi that offers simulator training in diving, propulsion, and sonar tape listening and analysis.

The PN's submarine service has relied on French boats almost since its inception in the 1960s, and today operates two obsolescent Hashmat-class Agosta-70 boats and three modern Khalid-class Agosta-90Bs.

Odd.
The Asian-led recovery in the world economy is reflected by a burst of activity in the region’s submarine market where currently only Cambodia, Myanmar (Burma), New Zealand, the Philippines and Sri Lanka appear to have either no interest in - or resources for - these platforms.

How will this benefit PN?? What can Myanmar offer?? Asylum to rohingyas lol i doubt that!

Everything doesn't work according to Ummah logic.

Myanmar has close friends in China so it bares to reason that they will roll around with Pakistan. More importantly if there is commonality in the subs they will operate then Pak is perhaps their best bet unless they want to train with the Europeans.

Lets see which subs Burma goes for since a lot of markets are now open for them. It might be interesting to see another batch of Agosta operators.

It actually extends beyond the China angle; Myanmar helped us back in '71 by letting many of our military personnel (perhaps equipment too) & civilians escape through their land & get back to mainland Pakistan !

Whatever our anger over some of the actions of the Militant Buddhists (sounds like an oxymoron to be fair) in Myanmar & the lack of movement by their Government over that - We recognize that they helped us & we don't begrudge an entire Nation the actions of a few !

Bhai if they use it against you they promise to say Joy Bangla before firing the torpedo ! :D

actually indirectly this spending favor us, they will spend more without considering their economy, it will badly affect their economy while we are doing after considering our economy :D

Don't worry my friend, they're opening up their economy & they've got some natural resource potential that is their for the taking which means their economy doesn't have that bleak prospects ! :)

actually its not just an "actions of few“ the state itself is involved in actively prosecuting rohingyas and hardly have taken steps to stop violence against them and punishing the ones responsible for it

who says they does not have potential, but without considering economy, it will hold them back from becoming powerful nation for many years. :) anyway we have another strategic partner Thai land who consider Burma as enemy (burma does same), they have long history of conflict

Indeed. You do realize that their economy is going to boom! AS in BOOM!

You may want to be a bit more cautious with them.

I was referring to the Monks who are engaged in this but yes the State does appear to be looking the other way & letting it all go unhampered !
