What's new

My Motherland Pakistan

Muslim areas in Lucknow are the same as they have always been. Cows, dogs roaming around and gobar pasted around the mortar on brick pathways. Our area of chowk has been the same and you can't kill either cows or monkeys for fear of Hindus.

India should be ashamed of what it does to its people-then talks big on Pakistan's economic issues. Economic development in India is favored towards certain regions. Bihar is still as it was as are many other areas.

...And there it is!

Actually except for maybe Chandigargh (sic).. Rest of Indian cities are worse off.. Culcutta, Bombay, Delhi especially Old Delhi, Madras are absolutely chaotic and dirty, Bangalore used to be such a clean green place in the 90's but not any more

The larger cities of India are getting cleaner. There's a noticeable difference in mine. Anyway, this thread isn't about India.

. . .
As far as South Asia goes deterrence would be the key to solve this issue, Heavy fines for littering and haphazard garbage disposal.. People are too uneducated and careless to follow civic sense on thier own

Well thats good to hear and that was a reply to a condescending remark, Unwarranted in the context of the subject matter.. I stand corrected that Islamabad is or atleast was may more cleaner more organized city that any in India i have been to, Except may be chadigargh

Also make it a people's movement especially school children
That shames the adults into doing something

When The Representatives of the people whether they are MPs or MLAs get involved
personally it has a very Good effect on the public

Start Help lines and Tip lines

Take photos and send it to the concerned authorities

Let the cities compete ; Rank them ; give them awards

Where there is a will ; there is a way

South asians except maybe sri lankans have zero civic sense. Essentially we all are extremely selfish pricks

They're only slightly cleaner down there. Parts of Colombo are filthy too.

It's clear that all of South Asia needs a revolution.

Islamabad is tiny. Have you been to Mysore?

not true. The places I visited recently (December January) Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur and Trichi - all were much much cleaner than I have ever seen them before. Ofcourse there were the occasional trash heaps and in one are of Delhi the stench was bad. The train stations, bus terminii and airports were spotless. Surprisingly the trains were not disgusting at all. We did quite a bit of driving and the relatives did a good job of picking restaurants en route - so after a long time, I could eat delicious food in small places without experiencing 'delhi belly'!

The biggest problems were road congestion (too many cars) and the irritating cell phone habits (very loud!)

Yes i have.. Been to Bangalore numerous times so yeah Mysore a couple of times as well

I was replying in context, Cleaner they may be but hellava long way to go before we can call them clean.. I'd still reckon Islamabad is way cleaner than any Indian city i have been to and mentioned even if according to the OP standards have gone down

But yes good news is the situation is improving in Indians cities

It's down to population and civic sense. I agree with OP that Pakistan could do more. In South Asia I would place Sri Lanka as the least worse, followed by Pakistan with India/Bangla vying to be at the bottom. Things like sanitation, garbage disposal and public attitude all come together to create the environment.

*As regards public attitudes I think the mosques could help a lot. Instead of craving for spiritual purity and going after Ahmadi's etc in order to cleanse Pakistan of evil they could implore their followers to focus on physical hygene. How about creating some purity on the streets etc. In the Western world they have a saying "cleanliness is next to godliness". This sort of thinking has to be fostered.

Islamabad is by far the cleanest city I have seen in Pakistan, the worst has to be Faisalabad. In Europe I would say Paris is just filthy the streets look like a total mess, Berlin is the best city cleanliness wise.

Singapore and Malaysia I found to be very clean as was Tokyo, China sadly have the same issue as Pakistan, people don't care!

Same sentiments here.
I visited Pakistan after a gap of 12 years and was horrified.
It's gone from bad to worse and people are to blame.
The main Nullah of my town which is the natural drain of the valley from rain water, has been encroached by people and made so narrow that it's hardly there.
The remaining part of Nullah filled with garbage.
Now rain water has nowhere to go and little rain causes flooding.
12 years ago we could have torrential rains for days on end and had no flooding.

I live in Bahria town Islamabad.

One word when it comes to cleanliness

SPOTLESS.
It's all about organization. This is a private enterprise that is properly managed.
