Muslim General takes over Command of key 15 Corps
Updated on Saturday, December 04, 2010, 14:28

Srinagar: A Muslim General has assumed Command of the Army's key 15 Corps which guards the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir Valley, a defence spokesman said here.

Lt Gen S A Hasnain, has taken over from Lt Gen Naresh Chandra Marwah as the GoC, and is the second Muslim officer to command the 15 corps after Lt Gen Zaki in 1989-91.

Lt Gen Hasnain is familiar with Kashmir as he has served tenures in the Valley before the present assignment.

He was Commander of the Uri Brigade when the devastating earthquake struck the areas close to the LoC in October 2005. He was also a Major General commanding the Baramulla's 'Dagger Division' in 2008 when Kashmir was engulfed by street protests during Amarnath land row.

Before taking over the charge of the 15 Corps, the Corps commander last evening called on Governor NN Vohra.

The Governor discussed infiltration of militants from the LoC with Lt Gen Hasnain and the effects these have on the internal security situation in the Valley.

Vohra also called for better synergy between uniformed forces for tackling any emerging security situation in the Valley.

All those who keeps questioning the treatment of Minority (specially Muslim) in India, this is how we (Indian) answers them.

You realize you self defeat the point your trying to make by highlighting this and making it appear as crass tokenism. If you're a secular and religion averse force, that why do you care what your critics think? Insecurity?

He's just another patriot of your nation, what does it matter what his religious background is or what imaginary fairy tale he subscribes to?

those wont change their viewpoint no matter what kind of news you post. i dont blame them though, their counrty was created because of the assumption that muslims cant survive in a hindu majority india. why would they want to belive something that kind of takes away the whole purpose of their existence? opening this tread is a waste, news about muslims suffering is actually what makes pakistanis feel better about themself. just wait, windjammer, jana, batman, developero, pakistani nationalist, chinapak, ali.009, haider, abu zolfiqar and CO will soon start screaming gujrat, mumbai, babri mosque, kashmir etc from the top of their lungs. prepare yourself for a troll-parteeey:taz:

why do some indians feel like they have to convince pakistanis about the situation of indian muslims? we dont! yes, muslims on an average have a lower sosio-economic position then other groups in india because half of them live in states like bihar, WB and UP which are some of the most backward states ( combine that with the fact that many higher class muslims moved to pakistan after partition). once these states progress muslims will progress Inshallah!

Crass tokenism? Appointment's of such military commanders especially in important sectors are well publicized affairs. His religion was only pointed out to correct the misconception that usually inhibits the majority members of this forum, of prototyping India as Hindu, thereby denying the other Indians of their identity.

Such comments could only have been made by a person who is ignorant of the mentality that inhibits our western border, a mentality of religious prototyping. So what's wrong if someone tried to correct this misconception. No one is beating the bandwagon, this news has not even figured prominently in any major form in the country. It has been treated with the same importance show to important military position.

He just asks what is the need to prove them(the people who think wrongly about India) wrong ??

Do we have any international obligation to do that and he i absolutely correct in that.

Whatever be the move you cannot convince them. For example Tell them About Dr.Kalam they will tell he just has a Muslim name and he is not a Muslim.

Educating the facts to critics is part of secularism, instead of chopping of hands, Beheading, Eye gouging, etc.

Alternatively, i could list to you a few hindu and christian soldiers and commanders in the pak army. Religous intolerance is prevalent in both india and pakistan. Simply using the power of google can show you how many men women and children are being persecuted in india on the basis of their caste, colour and religion. Some of these stories are so shocking to be even mentioned.

The point im trying to make is, there will always be radical elements in each of our societies that continually seeks to disrupt peace and co existance. And in the spirit of co existance i will quote the bible . Do not attempt to take the tiny speak of dirt out of your brother's eye before you remove the log from your own eye.

educating the critics is one thing & trying to educate someone who thinks he is more educated than yourself is a completely different thing.
try it here.. you will know what i mean!!

Educating the facts to critics is part of secularism,

I agree.....like secularism is the reason we had so many wars for the last couple of centuries.......the 1WW-2WW vietnam iraq ect ect where all for for reason to do with secularism.
Hundreds of millions have been killed due to "democracy" "capitalism" and "secular values".

instead of chopping of hands, Beheading, Eye gouging, etc.

Just bomb them and waterboard um.

Well, now that you put your head on the block, lets examine this..........

keeping aside Ayodhya, Gujrat and genocide of entire people in India, lets look at you little report...........

Populations of Muslim in India is - 10 - 15%

You said this is the second Officer of the 15 Corps. What persentage would tyhat make him then..........:smitten:

Does the Indian Armed Forces actually represent its people........percentages speak otherwise....so please dont beat any victory drums just yet.......your judicial system just gave a clear chit to a terrorist serving in your political system of any wrongdoing in the Gujrat riots when volume of facts about this mans terrorist activities speak for themselves...........Indian philosophy, "can't do anything against Hindu terrorists, so lets put them into Politics, that way they are legal terrorists"

So please dont just :blah::blah::blah:

Funny thread. What his faith has to do with the position he is assuming. IA is a secular army to the core and officer corps are selected purely based on talent, religion or cast don't play any role there.
