Lt Gen Manoj Pande becomes first engineer to be appointed as Army chief

Interesting this.

Could never imagine an officer from EME or ASC or Signals becoming an Army Chief or Corps Commander even.

Perhaps different way of going about things.

One of the most revolutionary USAF chiefs came from the transport branch - so it depends on how well this chief has acumen tailored to change. If he was purely a political appointee then good luck to the IA
Because USAF operations are largely a logistical exercise with very little room for strategy.

Definitely a political appointee who would follow the RSS line. Just look at his resume. His only operational achievement is participating in Operation Parakram, which was an unmitigated disaster for the Indian Army, where it lost 1,500 troops without firing a single bullet in anger. Most of the deaths were due to logistics and engineering failures.

With the recent destabalization in Pakistan due to the Army Generals, I have come to the sad conclusion that Indian Army/Military is better focused on its tasks as compared to Pakistan Military. It is my belief that organisations who are Focused on their KEY ROLE and OBJECTIVES gain success compared to those who are NOT.

People making fun of this appointment must realize that Indian Military has done this because it understands the AI driven technical REVOLUTION taking place in the Military affairs. That is why they have appointed an ENGINEER as the army Chief.

I am now convinced more than ever that Pakistan Generals are more interested in political meddling and Real Estate bargaining than Real Military affairs and revolution taking place right before our eyes. IT IS SAD.

It is quite unusual for Indians to change their army chief during a time of political crisis in Pakistan. It is a very startling and alarming development.Does our army seem interested in this development or are they busy with how to politically murder IK through ECP and Judiciary?

Every 15-20 years, chiefs should be appointment from corps generally not selected for Generalship. They can give solutions from a different perspective. They can also resolve some issues plaguing their branch cos their brother officers look down upon them or do not understand the field their brothers work from.
These can turn out to be blessing in disguise or bad for IA. Only time will tell.

There is no changing. Army general will retire on May 4th. Even during our issues with China, we had nearly 3-4 corps commander changed. Extension is quite rarely given to chieftains in India.

From the scale of Muslim bad to Kill them all... where does this Chief stand ?

A good cover story for this change, but at a time when Pakistan is undergoing a political crisis, it seems to be fishy. We are always prepared to surprise you with a surprise for you. You see our nation spirit now, isn't that something? It is all because of the mis-calcualtion in the script, and even the United States doesn't want to handle the actual situation and is scared of the situation in pakistan. You should not take any steps that will lead to your last miscalculation.

If I was to venture a guess, the Russian challenges with Operations and Maintenance of assets during the invasion of Ukraine may have prompted the Indians to review their own exposure given the huge reliance on Russian equipment - hence the need for an Engineer to lead the services. Perhaps indicative of the scale of the potential problem. Just a theory.

Seniority is more or less followed in deciding the Army Chief. Upcoming General Manoj Pande was the vice chief under Gen Narvane.

The rule states that the position of Army Chief can be at the most held for 3 years or by the age of 62. Narvane is turning 62 this 22nd April. Therefore he will be retiring.

Gen Manoj Pande will be 60 when he joins the office. Should serve till 2024.

His selection is not a surprise per say, as he was the vice chief and is having a minimum of 2 years till he is 62, it was confirmed way before that he will succeed the present Army chief. There is no other angle.
