Yes, he is Sindhi by origin. See, India is a big country and there are people from a lot of ethnic backgrounds, all mixed up. The diversity is so much, that we cannot really put together a definition of who is an Indian or a Bengali. So, here's the thumb rule - Anybody, who identifies himself as an Indian, is an Indian. Same goes for being a Bengali.
