What's new

Musharraf does it again!

Musharraf has not much to do with - current state of pakistan.
I think most of it began in N.S times with kargil war and removing Musharraf, IsI holding much more power than - goverment itself.

Musharaff was probably one person who - can handle everybody, ISI ,ARMY , GOVERMNET, Supream court, people . He took some steps which were not right but Reason was more of conditions he was in.
Times were such to take those steps.

9/11 happned - musharaff actually saved pakistan from americans, and gained lot of diplomatic respect from world. Imagine a country like america openly - accepting a Genral of defence to be president of a country ???

Its not small thing - people all over world respected and hardly saw him as a - ruler!

lol, duhashtmish how are u today?

I guess its the first time that we dont agree with each other?? isnt it?

Yess musharaff has alot to do with the current state of pakistan, and what has kargil war to do with terrorism?

Musharaff gained alot of respect from americans but surrenederd the soverignity of the country to them....we never had such interference in our own domsetic issues of the world/americans what we have now...

Even the judges of the country are decided by americans..what else do u expect?

You really should read this:

World Poll Finds Global Leadership Vacuum - World Public Opinion

Sixteen of the 20 publics surveyed say they lack confidence in US President George W. Bush. Only Pakistan's Pervez Musharraf is rated negatively in more nations.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has the poorest ratings around the world. Only in China do positive views (37%) outweigh negative ones (30%). Nigeria is divided and the other 18 nations lean negative.

.
Is pakistan part of G20 I dnt think so. If yes then they could have used some international help to fight out the terrorist. I believe basic education and religion tightly coupled with politics is the problem. People have to accept moderate views rather than extremist.

And atleast start realising that the true enemy of pakistan is not india but the strong network of terrorists(uncontrollable pests) who were grown within the land of pure for some strategic objectives, which till this date just remains a dream.
I dnt want to initiate a tug of war over here. expressing my views and sympathy towards the state of affairs in Pakistan.

Truly,
A likeminded Indian.

.
Nawaz as well as Zardari both have clearly mentioned that ISI hasn't done any terrorist activities that is quite a baseless allegation but as for General Musharraf I think his popularity was handed to him in his own elections.

You are right, at one point Zardari was popular than Musharraf but now Musharraf is more popular, People have realized truth about Zardari.

Next is NS, I hope people in Punjab also see the truth.

BTW, NS was also rejected by Pakistanis (except for Punjab) as well in the last elections.

People in Punjab are probably the most educated and also the fact that it is the most litterate province out of the four as much as I can remember constituencies like Wah and Taxila have voted PML(N) and they are almost reaching 70% litteracy what you need is to vote for better and if their is anyone better than NS at the moment he would have stirred masses from all the four provinces like NS did and that of educated people like lawyers.

NS didn't campaign out of Punjab in the last elections or atleast not that much he didn't even come to my constituency or even one of his members they can always show their strength and the long march has proven it.

^^I think the most literate city is Karachi, and they pay tax, karachi makes 68% revenue of pakistan, they are sincere with country bcoz the pay tax, and in karachi, we can say that 80-90 percent of population will vote musharraf!!

.
And UN says the most literate province is Sindh

Pakistan’s literacy ratio still at 50pc: Unesco

By Bakhtawar Mian

ISLAMABAD, April 19: Literacy ratio in Pakistan still remains at 50 per cent, mainly because of small
budgetary allocations, lack of political will and delays in disbursement of funds, according to the
Unesco.

In the region, Pakistan has been ranked higher only than Nepal and Bangladesh, which have literacy
rates of 49 and 43 per cent, respectively. Other countries have far better ratios: the Maldives,
96 per cent; Sri Lanka, 91 per cent; and India, 61 per cent.

Addressing a function organised by the Parliamentary Caucus on Literacy in Pakistan on Saturday,
Unesco’s representative Arshad Saeed Khan said there were about 55 million illiterate people in the
country because of which the country risked failing to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

If corrective measures were not taken, the percentage of illiterates might rise to 60 per cent of the
population by 2010, he said.

Sindh has the highest percentage in education which stands at 54 per cent followed by Punjab
(52 per cent) and the NWFP (40 per cent). Balochistan has the lowest ratio – 33 per cent.

The Unesco attributed the low level of literacy rate to factors like weak organisational infrastructure,
low professional capacity, lack of research, non-availability of proper training institutes, low public
awareness and lack of evaluation and monitoring system.

“The state shall be responsible for eradication of illiteracy and provision of free and compulsory
education up to secondary level, within minimum possible time,” says article 37-B of the 1973 constitution.

Mr Arshad Saeed said that 16 political parties – including the PPP, PML-N, ANP, JUI-F and BNP (Awami),
BNP (Mengal), Jamaat-i-Islami, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and National Party — had signed Education For
All Declaration on February 5, 2008 in which they had pledged to increase education budget up to
4 per cent of GDP, at least 10 per cent of the education budget for literacy and non-formal education,
free and compulsory primary education — achieving 100 per cent enrolment rate, 86 per cent adult literacy
by 2015, eradicate political interference and favouritism in appointments, transfers of education staff
and uniform core curriculum and similar facilities in all schools.

Unesco stressed the need for legislation for free secondary education as a fundamental right, increasing
education budget to 4 per cent of GDP, ensuring equal opportunities for all children because Pakistan has
ratified Unesco Convention Against Discrimination in Education.

Karachites vote for Musharraf not because they are educated, but because they think Musharraf is Urdu Speaking. Literacy has nothing to do with wisdom, else Karachites would have not repeatedly voted for a terrorist lingual organization called MQM.

.
Ethnic voting is bound to occur it even happens in Punjab but I thought the MQM is a very odd party working with a dictator and coalition partner in the democratic setup they are slightly power hungry and undecided.

I think you have to give the karachiites a bit more credit than that. During Musharraf era, unprecedented development took place in karachi. Also to a certain extent the law and order situation became better. Mind you I am comparing this with the Benazir times when people were afraid to go out of their houses after dark. So it was a vote based on their perception of progress rather than any linguistic affinity.

Araz, half of my family members live in Karachi, I myself have lived for some 3-4 years in Karachi. If they nominate a donkey on behalf of MQM, that donkey will win the election. That is how it is in Karachi. The development part you are right, but can't really compare it with BB's time. Because in Musharraf's time, MQM was given full hand to do whatever they wanted to in return of some political favor. It was different in BB's time when MQM terrorists were not tolerated and were chased and prosecuted.

Wrong!!!! had this been the case, PML-Q would have dominated karachi instead of PPP and MQM.

Reason being, MQM was percieved as an "ally" party where as PML-Q was his own party...

I think a more accurate account of your tantamount and oblivious theory would be as our friend saadahmed put it http://www.defence.pk/forums/national-political-issues/22657-i-am-punjabi.html I'm punjabi.. Further more, I do not believe in such superficial boundaries that some members here are advocating. That is just demeaning. I wonder when we will follow Mr. Jinnah's vision of Unity, Faith and Discipline.

Pakistan first.

I'm from Karachi and it is the financial capital of Pakistan. Regardless of ethnicity, the people voted for MQM because of two reasons i- their work ii- support for Gen. Musharraf.

MQM is one party that has representation from local populace and not based on jageerdars and wadayras. By the people for the people. Mustafa Kamal, has been the testament of MQM's devotion to work for the people. Yes, there are some elements which cannot be denied as there are far more for the other bully vadayras out there (PML-N, ppp)

You should probably watch the following video.
