MMRCA Fighter deal bigger: 126 will rise to 260

^^ i agree with all ur points dude.... i was thinking from the worst case scenario..... where 5th gen got delayed for some reasons... :(

1.) As the latest news in chinese media reflecting china's intentions to go on war and ever increasing incursions by chinese. We need to rapidly build our capacities to defend our land and people.

2.) We need at least 300 Su 30 MKI (including Su30 MKI for Brahmos) + modern and proven fighter under MMRCA.

But MMRCA should be of single vendor otherwise it will be nightmare.

3.) MMRCA will bring the benefits like offsets, ToT, strategic, diplomatic etc.

4.) Replacements of Mig 29/M2K/Jaguar etc. are secondary as we are already extensively upgrading them. Our main concern to add the numbers and also the proven fighters for two front thread.

Very good news for Indian airforce. With these proven jets, India has no need to buy any LCA and its antiquated design. HAL is under no pressure to come up with any jets in the near future and can focus on producing better planes for Indian in the distant future.

Does anyone have an approximate idea of the SU30MKI production rate?
Coz with the numbers stacking up I find it difficult to see how 270 aircraft will be built.

Current rate stands at 23 Aircraft a Yr and it is expected to rise to 28 aircraft a year in 2012

HAL has delivered 105 of the 220 Su30MKI which it was supose to build , Russia has also supplied over 50 MKI to india

I attended Aero India 2011, Honestly I found Rafale more impressive than Eurofighter, SU 30 MKI was really a disappointment but one of the pilots around said it is not allowed to showcase all it's maneuvers since it creates high decibel sound that can even lead to deafness...

Rafale really won the show, at least I loved it, Eurofighter was good too but not as impressive as it is supposed to be.. Its name come with high standards which, I think, it couldn't showcase at Aero India..

In fact F 16 was amazing!! Very beautiful and agile bird, smooth and pretty silent.. F 16 was really mesmerizing..

I think India should go for F-16 or F-18 as India can get even more advance systems in it. If India can get America's yesterday technology would be a better acquisition than India get tomorrow's Russian/European technology. As American technology is about 1 week ahead of Russia and Europe.

 ur wrong...
We'll buy from US or EU ..
Well co-develop with Russia and Isreal
Well also build our own..

SO our airforce will get the best and get some good numbers in short time..
Ex:-SU-30MKI is manufactured in India and russia also,,

SO end of the day...
These will be intense pressure on HAL and ADA to complete the projects....

Stop worrying over HAL :P

PSUs plan take-off: HAL to go in for Rs 20,000-cr makeover

Posted: Fri Feb 11 2011,

India's premier public sector defence units are set to build up capacities in a significant way to meet the flood of defence-manufacturing requirement projected in the country under evolving defence procurement and production regimes.

Aircraft manufacturers Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) announced a Rs 20,000 crore plan over 10 years for modernising its plants and hinted at a possible public offering like its giant PSU cousins Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Earth Movers Limited at the Aero India 2011 here on Thursday.

BEML, meanwhile, announced plans to set up a Rs 350-crore aerospace engineering facility while BE indicated negotiations for tie-ups with global defence radar majors like the British Thales and the Israeli Rafael in a push to achieve a target of $300 million to $500 million offset business in the next three to five years from current marks of $60 million.

Incidentally, Defence Minister A K Antony had stated at the opening day of the show that “all defence public sector units in the country are in the process of modernisation in a phased manner”. The major PSUs were gearing up to be competitive in the global defence market, he said.

According to HAL’s finance director D Shivamurthi said the company would use internal accruals to fund the Rs 20,000-crore expansion. HAL is expected to create a new manufacturing facility employing nearly 3,500 people for uptake of the MMRCA deal when it is clinched. The PSU now has 19 production divisions and 10 research units. HAL now has Rs 1 lakh crore worth of orders deliverable over 10 years, Shivamurthi said.

There won't be any significant TOT involved with american birds, and they are sanction prone so US aircrafts are strictly no-go for us.

I would say EF or Rafale....

NO F-18 or F-16
They are sanction prone and No ToT,where as EF and Rafale offers full ToT...
as Defence minister said 3 days ago that No political pressure will affect the selection of MMRCA...

^^ Um no more sanctions you know why? Because if we become strategic partners with the US then that makes them gain an influx of capital from India and Frankly if Us and India ceome allies we will become their most important strategic asset in Asia which Us cannot afford to lose. USA is very smart even with not as much ToT as the European warbirds we get mores startgic benefits which counts. Take NATO for example. It is without the USA. . Europe depends on Americans as much as India depended on Russia and to some extent depends on Russia today. It evident when USA took off all defence and space orginasations off the export control list that they are serious about winning MMRCA. And this ToT all Indians keep on whining about just cecause the warbirds from europe look sexier.....their technologies are completely outclassed be USA. According to the RFPs and limits, offsets etc India said x amount of ToT needs to be there or no deal. Infact USA offers from ToT than India asks, thus satisfying requirments. And frankly becoming an ally and parter with US automatically means ally of NATO thus becoming allt of EU and european nations. You need to think realistcally that on paper things might not look good but the once you become friend of USA, there is nothing to worry about because then EU cant anymore against India. Plus on the side note SH has the most superior and matured AESA radar and engines avaiable to India right now. Then the International ROadmap Boeing is offering means HAL-Boeing will be in good company til at least 2020. EF to expensive, Rafale no future but incredibly sexy, Gripen basically F-16 and us technologies with Swedish flag, F-16 well no future because it is coming ti the end of its development and cycle-run+ Pakistan has it and US wont sell same aircraft to both countries, Mig-35? Well we just upgrading all out Mig-29s so no fear there + we have commitments with Sukhoi for 5th gen fighter programs. This may look biased but its true. ANd this MMRCA is nothing but India to gain some serious political ties with a country. If we are really interested in the future of IAF SuperHornet is way to go. We could've purchased EF if it was 126 units we would be ordering (still cost around 15 billion USD and MMRCA is/was 11 billion deal, with 260 units 25 billion USD). Unless we allocate more money then EF has chance to win.

I agree that Super Hornets should be taken. India can learn from this technology and develop indigenous technolgoy base on what the scientist learn about this bird.

In that case we have to loose our sovereignity... which i afraid we shouldnt... Any move with US has to be with caution.. we should be happy with the current relationship especially only on terrorism containment.. After all they are the one who believed we India will disintegrate into number of smaller states
