Very good news for Indian airforce. With these proven jets, India has no need to buy any LCA and its antiquated design. HAL is under no pressure to come up with any jets in the near future and can focus on producing better planes for Indian in the distant future.

This is a terrible idea.

Thats what happened with the Marut, India bought like a whole bunch of MIG-21s and basically forgot about the indigenous effort. And India had to create a "better" fighter in the distant future which was the Tejas, by then India was so far behind. India can not lose any more momentum. Thats a terrible idea, India should keep trying and trying and never give up the indigenous effort.

No only one will be chosen. Also this number is speculated. The wise decision will be to raise the number to only the number to which follow-on order is allowed in the contract.

Purchasing more than this would be stupid idea because after 5-6 years EF and Rafale will cost us more than 5th gen fighters and gripen will cost close to the present cost of EF and Rafale.

If IAF really wants to increase the order to this level, then they should increase the number right now and also increase the number in the option of follow-on order because there is no doubt this number of 126 will increase.

Also we should have worked hard in our naval requirement also. Buying the same fighter selected in MMRCA after couple of years will also be a foolish decision. Including the naval fighters in the same deal will be a wise decision.

F-18 is the best strike fighter among the MMRCA contenders. If we split the deal in two then one will definitely be a strike fighter. So selection F-18 is good thing. Remember we have to replace large number of Mig 27 and Jaguars.

That means, what has been talked about as a $10-12 billion deal will eventually fetch the winner of the contract close to $25 billion.

How many things India can do with $25 billion ?

We can uplift millions of people out of poverty. We can Build nice infrastructure, 8 lane roads, fast railways, invest in education. We can build free toilets, water facility for every family. All the slums in metros can be removed and new houses can be built for poor. Thousands of farmers die every years. And, we are wasting money in these useless fighter jets which will probably never be used in wars. This is insanity of huge proportion. Hope this MMRCA deal gets scraped. By the time India inducts it will be already outdated anyway. 300 Sukhois are more than enough to defend the border. India one of the most poor country can't afford to buy this expensive, useless jets.

China and PAK will make sure that India is not in the map.. do you want this to happen??.. how do you 300 sukhois are enough for indian border... do you know the length of our border?? do you know how many top notch jets our adversaries are having?? ... defence is a investment for growth.. every country is doing that... if you keep this investment for peace we will have more growth and our middle class will definitely grow..
