Mental Health Corner

Brother, only a psychiatrist can prescribe such medications. I would advise you to see one ASAP. Gastro or any other doctor has no business doing this and psychiatric medications are very complicated to manage and have side effects. Kindly, visit a psychiatrist and show him the diagnosis.

Thank you, hope it helps.
When I visited gastroentrologist, he also gave me this medicine for 1 month after checking my body languageView attachment 600848

Nice to see you here again, Zarvan bahi, I hope you remember me, we used to debate heatedly back in '12-14 :) I'm sorry to hear that but as it requires some personal details I would welcome you to chat with me in pvt so I can help you decide if you should go for therapy.

Other than that, bahijan, if you're of a certain age usually 30-45 years then such feelings do rise up from time to time and that's pretty normal. The threat of being alone and isolated is something that the human mind finds terrifying because we are by nature social. So, it is natural to feel it; however, if it is getting so bad that it is giving you anxiety then you should consider going for counseling (milder therapy) that can help you identify what's exactly bothering you? Is it being alone because you feel you won't find matching personalities, is it that you've lost some contact with your friends and are having trouble making a new social support group? Is is purely in terms of a romantic relationship? And so on. Once you're clear then your future line of action can be easier to decipher for you as well as your therapist.
Great thread, specially as for few reasons I am suffering from depression I haven't gotten it checked yet. But sometimes despite everything going smoothly in my life I really feel depressed. One major reason or fear I often get is afraid of ending up alone in life. This fear keeps bothering and is getting bad to worse by every passing day.

I achieve very high scores in I.Q tests but always having trouble in math....

A very insightful post, brother, thank you for your insight. Yes, essentially, mental health is about achieving as much balance as we can in our minds so we can do so in our lives. From a practicioner's POV here's what we go by: if your problems are bothering you, if you feel stressed or burdened then you should go for counseling (general life problems). If the problems are so bad that your routine functioning in life (job, study etc., ) are being hampered then you need therapy (clinical psychologist, specialist). If the problems are so bad that you are without a complete grasp of reality or functioning (i.e. it's become biological in nature) then you'd require a psychiatrist and clinical psychologist to work together and help you heal.

Thank you.

Brother, research shows that mathematical skills in the brain are not innate but learnt. Therefore, in the specific area that you're having problem such as arithemitc or algebra etc., is where you have made an unhealthy association (such as, I can't do this, this is too hard etc.,) which is hampering your execution. Remember anxiety affects normal functioning. Once, we address that association and its reaction, you would start improving. It could also be that the IQ test is making you anxious (unknowingly) because you're taking it for a job or are worried about what it may reflect about you.

I had some depression issues in the past, but i have learnt to control them. They don't affect me now.

Alhamdolillah, when they bother me, I start thinking about something else, or hit a gym.. 2 hours of exercise and 500 ml of fresh coconut water makes me happy..

Either depression is gone altogether (because I know how to control it) or I am living in constant depression and I don't even know if I am suffering from it.

You are welcome, Our Resident Humanist!!! Wonderful, wonderful...

From anxiety to damage/reconfiguring of neural pathways...there is always change in brain chemistry... as you know too well brain chemistry determiens behaviour/thoughts/feelings.... which in turn effect hormonal production... and in reserve it is equally true..i.e. hormonal production effecting brain chemistry.

It is just vast, fasicnating subject... and in my view requires a wholistic approach than established practice... anyhow, awareness is growing....

Anatomy of Beliefs is rather curcial before devising a health strategy... and individual lives in an environment...

What I would like to see is establishement of GeneticEngineering in Pakistan for both GeneticMedicine and as Diagnostic tool... the Age of Genetic Medicine is here... @Dubious knows it much better than I!!!

Depression is processing mechanism actually... body's way of slowing down... nobody can exist without depression... the trick, which you have found... it food and excercise to keep it managable...

Too much excitement is equally bad as is depression....

Just avoid any white sugars..and switch to honey/ghur.... you will feel an adjustment period...since, sugar give instant insuline boost...but it also poisons cells...

I was curious so I consulted psychologist he took again some I.Q tests which prove I was in Einstein club but he told me my brain process more quickly them my memory and that is why i failed to learn new mathematical skills and I need to do more exercise to learn. Is that conclusion correct?

How to message you I can't see the option and yes I am 30 going to be 31 this year.

Silent depression can be dangerous, brother, why don't you consider consulting a psychologist. It would not hurt, would it? Things do get better.

Few tests are that valid, brother, and testing requires a liesence and training. If that's not there then I wouldn't rely on it.

A relative of mine goes to see a therapist and the therapist recommends things like meditation, mindfulness, etc. These are things I feel like a quick google search can tell you to do. What do you suggest is it worth continuing with therapist or just do these yourself? I feel the therapist isn't worth the money for him. What are some of things that distinguish a good psychologist from a poor one?

Have you learnt how to be happy ?
Most people don't know how to be happy and keep themselves happy.

Do you stay in gratitude all the time ?
Thankfulness is very important as it keeps humans away from anxiety and restlessness.

Psychologist helps coz he/she doesnt judge you. Your fridn's/family may judge u when u open up.
If there is a neutral person who wants to help and you can open up to him/her then that is awesome. I think everyone has one or two psychological issues atleast, due to experiences, insecurities, traumas, abuse etc in life. Some find escapes, some find distractions and very few face them and solve them. Majority of people over-think, drown in negativity, give in to their useless thoughts and finally succumb to depression.

I think most people go in depression coz its an easy way out. Its the easiest option instead of facing own thoughts, own ghosts, own negativity, own ego, own faults, own fears etc.

got a Panic disorder if it counts ...
If you learn to accept the life that God has written for you, you won't panic. What we say in Urdu, Rab ki Raza mein Raazi ho jana. You will feel lighter and won't panic.

Its more than that, I never understand what trigger my panic it might be fear , health , depression .. I had panic attacks during Namaz , sometimes it gets so bad that I had to break Namaz and because of that fear of getting panic attack during Namaz I stopped Offering Namaz for so long .. Only if i know what trigger i might be able to do something about it but the pills I was/is taking helps me a lot .
