Hello,

One of my relative is suffering from Cancer and I know there are many doctors in this forum. Can somebody explain what is the meaning of "Cirrhosis of liver with Hepatic mass" ?

More reports are yet to come but this is the only report so far they have received

It's heading toward decompensated liver failure - the liver has been replaced with fibrous tissue, and that has led to backing up of blood in the spleen hence the dilated varices.

You need to get a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. AFP can be normal in up to 40% of patients-

Hepatocellular carcinoma - PubMed Health

Is it confirmed cancer or you're having doubt it is? Have you done biopsy to confirm it?

Confirmed cancer by his doctor. He advised for more tests to find out the stage of the cancer but everybody is so worried that they are trying to find the advise from the initial reports as shown above

Take it from a cancer survivor... Do not mess up your mind with what you read on the Internet.. The reports only make sense when correlated with clinical symptoms by a trained specialist.. Otherwise you can read a million things into the same report..

What kind of cancer you were suffering from?

If the person's liver is damaged to the extent where it is imminent to give up... Can the liver transplant help increase the span of life? Sorry my knowledge about medical science is close to Nil

Actually that person is my father and the doctors confirmed he is suffering from Cancer and his liver has been damaged by up to 90% as per him? He was suffering from hepatitis C for couple of years but the laters had confirmed that the hepatitis stopped damaging his liver since 2008. Now in 2012 we are hearing that he is now suffering from Cancer

Cirrhosis in simple words means disturbance of normal architecture of the liver. Hepatic means something related to the liver, hepatic mass means mass in the liver..

Was he having hepatitis B or C?

Detoxification primarily taking place in liver and kidney, environmental/food habits/infection may affect functions of liver technically it creates imbalance between pro-oxidants/oxidants and anti-oxidants levels simply it affects the redox state of cells. During infection its change the biological design of the cell both condition leads to formation of cyst/fibrous/lobes formation thereby it will affects regenerative capacity of liver which is only organ in our having such capability so such position is detrimental for body homeostasis. Without knowing state I mean level of disease progression like A,B,C its quite impossible to tell anything. Earlier treatment is always good option I hope everything will be alright.

Biopsy is invasive procedure so no need to do that I think better go for imaging or other. B4 doing anything consult at-least 3 specialists is recommended.

Whats the age of your father? Liver can be transplanted but if cancer has involved others parts also then it's bit difficult.

It is very sad to hear this bro, may Allah bless him the soonest recovery inshAllah he will be fine!! and will join other cancer survivors!

And I guess that could be only done if it is transplanted from someone close to him like son or daughter??

He is 58 years old and so far I have not heard of his cancer spread anywhere but the liver itself
