The fact that they were fighting to defend a government known as being the last staunch Arab state sponsor of the Palestinian cause, one in whose capital city Palestinian Resistance groups had set up political headquarters? The fact that this government's army mostly consists of Sunni Muslims? That its president happens to be married to a Sunni Muslim?
