Anybody who lives in Karachi, can easily tell you high densely populated and backward area liyari is. Can anyone believe that in a place like Karachi where skyscrapers are popping up like anything have a place call liyari which is still portrait a picture of a eighteenth century town. The people of liyari are normally very friendly sports loving but at the same time too much involve in the gang wars. The problem was never been like this before but since the day they politicized the situation, it has gone from bad to worst and the hidden hand is making it even worst. My two cents.

KARACHI: Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Friday said that the police operation in Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood had been stopped, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives, the minister said that police and Rangers were only surrounding the neighbourhood.

“The forces have been ordered to withdraw,” Malik said.

Malik further said that “if Aziz Baloch had no trust in the police, then he could surrender to the Rangers”.

Responding to a question, Malik said “justice would be done to Aziz Baloch and his companions”.

Eighth day

Friday morning saw a tense Lyari as the operation against criminal elements in the area had entered its eighth day.

Sporadic gunfire could be heard in the area as authorities reportedly finalised plans to use helicopters for the operation and deploy Rangers in the area.

Gangsters killed

Earlier on Thursday, the police claimed to have taken two alleged gangsters’ bodies into custody after killing them in an exchange of fire in the area’s Afshani Gali on Thursday morning.

However, the families of the two alleged gangsters, identified asShirazand Junaid, claimed that the two youths were innocent and vehemently denied that they were gangsters.

Don't get dishearted,all others , also been established durring , army,s rule?
I am nt a supporter of MQM, but we should be fair , with MQM ! In karachi , its only one victm , from , 1990s , which was bieng, targeted by 100s of fake opreations, which were later , declared bogas & politicly motivated,opreation commanders like Brg.IMTIAZ openly, accepted the truth.
Even this time OZAIR baloch openly, accepted the fact , they were given ARMs & AMMO by PPP,s Zulfiqar mirza , to wipe out. MQM & its vote bank!
No one is innocent here, but we have to make & create, a fair balance & a good diffeence between mqms political power & gangesters , when we pass , any judgment on any one! we can have a difference of opinion, but thats different & can be resolved by voting in elections!
even at the , times when opreations , were done against MQM , they got biggest, of their voting mandate?
Its in the best intersts, of the country , that we call criminals, as criminals , & respect each others difference of opinion!
BLA & TTP are running, the show in all over pakistan, bt our media promotes them, innocent heros, & that the most, lethal game, against pakistan.

Lyari violence: No compromise on Karachi situation, says president

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday appealed to all political parties to cooperate with the government in maintaining peace in Karachi.
The president, during a meeting with Sindh cabinet members and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, said that the government is focusing on maintaining peace and protecting life and property in Karachi, and wants to improve the situation in Lyari in an effective manner.
He added that action will be taken against criminal elements and a political solution will also be devised to deal with them.

‘Lyari operation has ended’
After giving a 72-hour deadline to the criminal elements in Lyari, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Friday that the operation in Lyari has ended.
Speaking to Express News, Malik said, “We cannot hold the entire area hostage because of mere four-five people. The police and Rangers have only surrounded the area, while the forces have been pulled out from Lyari.”
The interior minister said that maximum electricity will be restored by evening, while telephone lines were restored around 6am in the morning. He said that electricity transformers which were destroyed because of the shelling will be reinstalled in the area, adding that the water supply which was disrupted will also be reconnected.
He said that justice will be done to Uzair Baloch – the head of the banned Peoples Amn Committee (PAC) and “Lyari’s most wanted” – and his accomplices. “If Uzair Baloch does not trust the police then he should surrender before the Rangers.”
“I came on the commands of President Asif Ali Zardari to make sure that the gangsters in Lyari do not try to take law in their hands. If they do so, we will continue to launch indiscriminate action against them which will not be half-hearted. We will chase them wherever they go.”
He said that peace will be restored in the area within the next four-five days.
Police has been involved in an operation to flush out gangsters from Lyari for the last seven days, facing tough resistance from the miscreants.
