Well you are right,actually road building was given priority only in the 2000s that's why there are so few good roads good thing is now this area is a priority area for govt & things will improve in the near future

Are you saying the Japanese contract with India is now invalided (post 21)? Am I correctly interpreting your comment?

Dude the Japanese are gonna build the road becuz they have funds that's why,our infra requirement is so massive that domestic sources can't fund thenthen,that's why the Japanese involvement

Why they cant just lend you the money and you build the road by yourselves? like to award the construction contract to the company that Nair has quoted below? Have you guys approached ADB and got rejected?

In these kinds if Loans or Grants there are certain clauses which state that companies of the lender (in this case Japan) will play a significant role in excecution of such projects.you Chinese do it all the time

Incorrect to compare those favourable loan and project development that China is doing with a lot of developing countries. We can be able to obtain the contracts because either the host country cannot do it technically or we are more cost beneficial to them plus the loan extension

In the case of Japan-India construction, actually you appear to have the expertise to do the job but you have given the business opportunity to the Japanese at the expense of Indian companies.
That doesnt sound like a good deal UNLESS Indian construction industry cannot provide the same level of expertise as the Japanese OR it is costing more for Indian companies to build the same road (which is quite unlikely) and/or you cant obtain loans for the project other than seeking terms with Japan

OK dude let me give you some examples when China extends a loan or a grant to a host country say Pakistan it ensures that Chinese companies play a significant role in building the Infra project like Gwadar port & hundreds of other projects like Roads & power plantsplants.
Now in the same way when Japan extends o loan or a grant it makes sure that Japanese companies build them, we also have many clauses to ensure Indian companies learn from these things but in this particular case (Roads sector) there is a massive fund crunch that's why we are encouraging foreign investment is this sector.
You tell me if you give me a loan to buy a bread becuz I don't have money to buy bread won't you ensure that I buy bread from your bakery

The formal nomenclature of "provincial highway" is "Unclassified Highway" (等级外公路). In China, highways arehttp://chttp://onstructed based on legislation JTG-B01-2003 ("Technical Standard on Highway Construction" or "公路工程技术标准"). Except for the highest grade of control-access highways, i.e. Expressways, others are classified into 5 levels.

Expressways are Controlled-Access highway, the highest-grade type of highway with access ramps, lane dividers, etc., designed for high-speed vehicular traffic, with all traffic flow and ingress/egress regulated. By 2015, quantity of Expressways (高速公路) is 111,950 km

The quantities of Highways are as below:
Level 1 Highway (一级公路) 74,300 km
Level 2 Highway (二级公路) 331,500 km
Level 3 Highway (三级公路) 401,900 km
Level 4 Highway (四级公路) 2,705,800 km
Unclassified Highway (等级外公路) 627,900 km
Total Highways 4,141,400 km

You mix two systems, one is technical system, like level 1/2/3/4 highway. The other is national/provincial/county/village roads. Qinghai-Tibet national highway is level 2 or level 3, but a village road can be level 1.
Formal calculation has at least two condition
1, paved roads
2, connecting cities, counties, villages
If the purpose of a paved road is to connect different parts of a villages but not from village to another village, it won't be calculated since it has no official name(a letter + a number+mileage, a little mileage indicator every 1km)

This road is not in the highway system, it won't be calculated.

if u are really interested in roads of China, you'd better come to China and have a look at China's expressway, highways, village roads, urban roads, etc. I've been traveling all around China, from cities to glaciers. Frankly speaking, keep comparing China's roads to India's, it's not a proper thing.

Operational Controlled access motorways in Pakistan had a combined length of 679.5 km and 58 km (Gojra-Faisalabad) is added recently with another 278 km under construction. Another 1,502 km of motorways and expressways are planned

This is a good thread, unfortunate to see it's started being another dick measuring/trolling contest as always. :disagree:

To be honest though, having been to India and China, I will agree that India's infrastructure 0and even more so roads are nowhere even close to that of China at all, the two are in different leagues. Surprisingly, when I visited Turkey and , Malaysia, I was shocked to see they have far better infrastructure than India. I think one reason for this as my friend @Echo_419 said previous Indian governments didn't focus on infrastructure prior to the mid 2000s, they started fairly recently , which was a foolish decision that has been holding the country back from fully taping it's full potential. It's even a miracle it's still grew /growing this fast. So as Indian government prioritises it's infrastructure investments, I'm sure things will change in the coming decades. :cheers:

But for now, there is no need comparing with China(only east Asian powers like S. Korea, Japan have better infrastructure than the Chinese, well those i have been to) . In fact it's not just India though, south Asia for some reason lags far behind east Asia in all fields.well considering the south and East Asian countries i have been to. So Lots of catch up to do. But I believe it's doable if they are determined . :cheers:

That constructed since 2000 despite lack of Land bill & ignored by 10 years of UPA rule but BJP is back & they are jokingly called Road wali Government (Due to their keen interest in road projects)
Currently we are making 30 KM of road everyday & don't need anyone's aid or technology.
So, be assured it would be completed as it is not military project.

Offcorse we know that we are behind the Chinese no Indian denies this fact but now the situation is changing very fast Infrastructure is a priority area for the new Govt & in a couple of years (yes years & not decades) we will be at no 4 in this list & if you want to know who is responsible for this fuckup then look no more its the CommunistMonarchy that's been heading India since independence

The Last part though of your post I don't agree with South Asia in some spheres is ahead of East Asia

What is the full potential you mentioned, do you mean population, or natural reserves, or others, in quantitative or qualitative terms?

Anyway regions with level of economic indicators of India, say Sub-Saharan Africa (underdeveloped but rich in natural reserves), should develop their infrastructures on the existing base. How fast I don't know, can't speculate without proven track records.

AIIB was setup with a purpose to facilitate infrastructure building in Asia, including China. Since its introduction, I have briefly recap the stage of development on infrastructures in another thread, please feel free to add useful info on the subject if you have any, I am yet to add info on water, EP and civil protection.
