well written! You carefully omitted 1999 kargil incident! wonder why?

Also missing is how you deal with afgan refugees and taliban! And about Co-operation with India in rebuilding Afganistan

Didn't want to derail too much. If Kargil is to be debated then LoC is also to be debated, that too in less than 800 words.

Afghan refugees should be allowed to stay.
Taliban would have to be turned into a political movement and must give up violence. In return for Kabul being inclusive of its own people.

You realize its open border and more and more ''refugees'' are coming everyday?

Border needs to be effectively controlled. I am talking about refugees who are already here. Their repatriation would be slow.

you are right but do you think even if afghanistan becomes serious in improving its relations with us india wont use its influence in afghanistan to contain us

If Afghanistan feels that Pakistan is its true friend, as envisioned by Quaid, it would feel no need to bow to a country it once ruled.

you are right bit my point is that if what u are saying hypothetically happens in near future it will be against indias long term geopolitical interest wont it create hurdles in our little plan
right know in true meaning pakistan is wounded badly but still standing and our eastern naighbour still considers us a threat to its regional domination so what makes u think they will allow this to happen ?
the only way i see this happening is that both countries should make a comprehensive stratatagy to deal with taliban, drugs, refugees trade and india

Nicely put. We have to embrace Afghanistan on equal terms and not as a satellite state of ours, but then it would only be possible once India would also stop treating Afg as its satellite state.

Also, i have dared to add something to your following para:
'Take the spectacular failures of Operation Brasstacks, in 1987, Operation Parakaram and the ensuant meltdown of 'Sundarji Doctrine' in 2002, the freezing in its tracks of Cold Start Doctrine in 2008 and now debunking of PAO as example when our expansionist neighbor had to learn the hard way...'

There are three type of Afghans:

1- Permanent settlers: These are those Afghans who are permanently settle in Pakistan & their 3rd generation is borne & raised here, majority of them have integrated themselves with the local economy as small traders or businessmen from Karachi to Peshawar; by not extending them 'citizenship' we are losing revenue and political n economic influence.

2- Non-Permanent settlers: They are those who have failed to integrate themselves with the Pakistan's economy completely till now they are generally labour class or involve in less beneficial trades in economic sense, this class can further be sub-divided on the bases of their length of stay and their 'inspiration' of stay in Pakistan.

For these two categories I think British model can be adopted to integrate Afghan origins Diaspora in our political, administrative & economic system, but at the same time we should keep in mind that they have their unique culture which they will remain practicing for some more generations.

3- Afghans in Afghanistan: Estimated population of Afghanistan is around 30 million, if the current political setup of Afghanistan fails or Taliban increased their activity we will again have to face another refugee crisis, for this I believe Iran model should be adopted, but with little amendments mean rather to setup refugee camps in our land we should go inside Afghanistan takeover some small towns & cities (approximately 5-10) near border to setup refugee camps as 'Refugee & Economic Centres' there and try to make them economically and socially more feasible, viable and better then the rest of Afghanistan.

By this way I hope we may not only be able to secure some of our interests, but might it be possible to decrease some of our Afghan related problems, but we should always remember that "Afghans are Afghans no attempt should be made to convert them as Pakistanis".

Due to the blessing of geography we are in the better position to deal with Afghans, but we are not using it to our interest at the maximum level. In any circumstance Afghans will choose a Country or 'an International Alliance' who will present them better economic opportunities, can India offer them sustainable economic opportunities for the 'longer period of time' alone ... ??

One thing to understand here is that India can only support certain groups or the individuals for a longer period of time & for those different groups or individuals different strategies could be adopted to deal with them.

Every policy of Pakistan regarding Afghanistan should focus on the 'Political & Economic' integration of Afghanistan with Pakistan.

What the heck is wrong with you people ? :hitwall:

I'd mandate the seizure of every dollar's worth of Afghan assets in Pakistan and use the proceeds from their sales to mine & fence the Durand Line before throwing every single Afghan living in Pakistan across the border to hate us till their heart's content but from the other side of the Durand Line !
