In an apparent gang rape attempt, a woman and three men of a family were murdered inside their house in Mauripur on Sunday.



While the exact details of the incident were shrouded in mystery, a survivor of the gory attack told the police that five men had barged into the house and tried to rape the women of the family. When the men resisted the attackers, they were shot dead.



Muzaffar, 45, his 40-year-old wife Shazia and their sons Imran, 28, and Samad, 22, were shot at point blank, Mauripur police said. The 18-year-old married daughter of the couple was also injured in the early morning attack in Mauripur’s Customs Colony. One of the victims, Imran, was an adopted son of the family.



Shershah SDPO Sohail Afzal said when police arrived at the house, five family members were found critically wounded. They were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where four of the victims succumbed to their injuries.



The survivor told the police she had come to visit her family home with her two-year-old daughter from Lyari. In the wee hours of Sunday, Mehar Bux and Lal Bux along with three more associates barged into the house and held the family hostage at gunpoint. The men were all drunk and tried to rape her and her mother but her father and brothers resisted them. The suspects, however, started firing at the family members and fled.



The police, Afzal said, have confiscated the spent bullet casings from the crime scene and sent them for forensic tests.



Muzaffar earlier resided in Musharraf Colony and had shifted with his family to Customs Colony about two months ago. He used to run a paan cabin near his house and often hanged out with the alleged accused Mehar Bux and Lal Bux, who were his neighbours and also visited him at his house from time to time. Afzal said the police were conducting raids in the area to arrest the culprits.

On December 29 two men identified as Aadil and Yaseen . affiliated with Rashid a Chief of a Layari Gang, forced entry into the house of Muzaffar Baig in Maripur. The feud was because of political differences with the two parties supporting opposite political views, Muzzaffar publicly known to be associated with MQM. Aadil and Yaseen brutally murdered Muzaffar and his family members Abdul Samad and Imran before raping his wife, S, and his new married daughter, M. S, the wife was also shot dead after being raped while M is said to have suffered a miscarriage due to being raped. Aadil and Yaseen have been arrested and reprimanded by the Anti-Terrorism Court. At 4.30pm today a peaceful protest is taking place outside the Press Club to put pressure on the Police and the Courts to expeditiously try the matter and bring Aadil and Yaseen to justice and not show any leniency to them because of their political affiliations. The protest is taking place to pay respects to the victims of this heinous crime and to send across the message that the people still believe in Justice through Police and Courts and hence the Courts should ensure that they do their jobs properly. The Press Club is a regular sight to holding protests and sit ins in Karachi and no violence confrontation with any group of the police is intended. I am not a supporter or member of MQM but I am supporter of rule of law and just causes. I urge everyone who may have any political differences with the MQM to not let Muzaffar's association with MQM hinder you from raising your voice against this tragedy and join the protest.
