I don't understand what is the issue as long as their bodies are covered.
Is their similar ban on boys wearing jeans anywhere else in the country?

This kind of unjustfied (am not talking about banning of jeans, but over all things) things happen almost in all the countires but the incidents are low somewhere and some where its high. If the rule is imposed it should be imposed without gender bias.

Here in this case if college bans jeans for women then same should be implied for male too.

Shouldn't really ban them from wearing jeans.. alright, the very tight ones could be construed as being unislamic, but religion is the person's responsibility.

Better to arrest the men that would grope them.

btw, there's no right or wrong answer to this. It's culture, it's local, it is up to the people to decide what that culture is. I don't think the school has the right to dictate it, unless they want to enforce a uniform.

turkey....imo is the best example of a modern musilm nation....where people enjoy all the liberties of Europe

But they changed that due to terrotist threat, now is this a bad thing becuase ordinaryPakistanies have to change thier lives due to threat from within or is it a good thing that Pakistanies are adapting to what situation requires or merely authorities are forcing a law that was already there?

Adhering to at stirct dress code is in the perogative of the college... but if a terrorist threat is the reason behind it.. its high time to take action.. Hopefully pakistan will be cleansed of thse anti social elements..!!!

Well the thing then remains as to how far will we sustain the threats with regards to the rule I think that it would probably be best for people to take a stand if they feel that the cause is worth it, there were rumours that Sania Mirza was told to wear better more modest clothes while playing tennis and she got an inch smaller short and a bigger sports Bra for the next game just to piss the threatning people off.

I think its good that they banned jeans. Pakistan is a Muslim country and we have our own culture. Jeans for women is not our Pakistani culture. I was born in the 80's but when I see old tv programs from the 80's I miss that innocence that we once had.

Pakistan shouldn't imitate the west or India. We should be proud of our culture, our clothing, shalwar kameez. With such hot weather in Lahore these days, who wants to wear jeans when shalwar kameez is so much more comfortable.

Maintaining once culture is good, and if its maintained along with the moving world its will be even much better. Just bcoz you wear jeans ot T-shirts dosent mean you forgot you own culture.

Pakistan shouldn't imitate the west or India  what is that Omer. If its you own view then its ok.

Maintaining culture dosent mean imposing its on other's. 90% of the ppls follow their culture whenever it needs to followed. And in case of this thread the Scenario is different.

When it comes to Jeans it has nothing to with culture or westernization. People where Jeans everywhere because you don't have to wash jeans everyday and even if jeans gets dirty you can wear it.

And you don't have to Iron it...:victory:

The western countries dont wear Pakistani clothes, why should Pakistanis wear western clothes. Wearing western clothes does not make people move ahead with the world. We Pakistanis have our own beautiful culture, we have our own beautiful clothing that are way more comfortable than western clothes. In the 90's and 80's you would hardly see any girl wearing jeans, they would always wear shalwar kameez, except for maybe in Karachi and Pakistan was doing much better then than now. At that time, we used to follow our culture and traditions, now people are starting to follow the west and india and its just making the new generation confused.

Our clothing is shalwar kameez, we are Pakistanis. If they were in a foreign country like US or UK I understand but they are in Pakistan.

Hmmm... what do you think of the western invention of internet, how is it affecting 'pakistani culture'?

Not sure if ban is only related to Jeans probably its for Pants too but strangely only applicable for Girls. Men have been wearing them from generations.
But how can school/college administration officially ban them won't they get sued in Court ?

I find girls pretty in shalwar kamiz, rather in jeans. I think it is up to them, what they want to wear, and no one should be forcing them to not to wear jeans.

i have seen a lot of white women wear shalwar kamiz, and hijab in canada in public.

The question isn't about jeans here. The question is why the college decided to impose the dress code right now. Did they do it because they wanted to or did they do it because the taliban told them to?

the discussion about jeans being islamic or unislamic, would lead us away from the main point... the Taliban have no business ordering people around in pakistan. If the Taliban did really do this (and i don't know if it was them)shouldn't you guys (pakistanis) be atleast concerned about what they'll order next in the affected regions. Compulsory beards and burqas, women not allowed to go out without an escort....etc. Afghan style. I'm not saying that they will do it. Hopefully the PA will take care of them soon.

We have cultural nitwits in India too who seem to think they were appointed to determine what is and what is not a part of Indian culture. I hate the lot of them. :tsk:

I think people who think its not a bad thing to force - a ban on jeans.

I think may be taliban should make all the male wear - a shalwar kamiz wit duppata.

Then i would liek to ask - most female members on PDF to say - WELL I don't think its an bad idea- i actually like men in salwar kamiz rather it will be better to see them in mini skirt roaming on the street of karachi.

--------------------
What people we have - how can somebody force or ban clothing - its question of personal choice.
