Kamorta class corvettes for VPN ?

Thanks. Do you happen to know if the Vietnamese Government is expecting to increase its defense expenditure to meet the cost of its military modernization program? What is the defense expenditure of Vietnam, btw?
Defence expensiture should not cross two percent mark otherwise bad signs for a developing country in future.

Not just that. They had also donated one Pohang Class Corvette to the Philippines. I hope that this 'donation' didn't contribute to such favorable bias for the Korean side. As you know, the North Koreans were able to sink a Pohang Class with relative impunity the last tragedy broke out. All hands died when the ship sank.

Too bad the Philippines cannot afford JMSDF's own Shirane Class Destroyers, which have a dedicated ASW capability. We have , unofficially, silenced many NorKor subs that had ventured into Japanese territory in the past with these ships.

Yes, I know, but I bet you they are greasing someone's pocket, everything is going korean now and in ways that makes no sense, that means only one thing.......

Defense expenditure should be considered especially for a developing nation like Vietnam. More resources should not be pooled from infrastructural / demographic development to military defense. Considering the fact that Vietnam's overall GDP does not exceed $200 Billion. With a defense expenditure of $7 Billion, that's already over 3% of its GDP.

Funding should be ensured for education, health, etc.

I think they've only been commissioned a few months ago. So they haven't been battle tested yet.

But too bad a Korean shipyard will probably win the Filipino tender.

The Kamorta can be configured as a multi-role frigate. Imo, if both the Philippines and VN choose wisely, they could get a AESA equipped Kamorta + Brahmos + Barak-8 for under $500million, basically a mini-aegis. I dont think anything in the SCS can match this power except for the 052D.
Bramhos is way too costly to maintain. Rather what is offered on the table is pretty different. Weapon against enemy ship fired underwater with secret actual tracking.

The Philippines will sway for Korean designs? And all because of that 'donation' of the Pohang Class? I hope that didn't swoon their favor so easily. I honestly believe the Philippines could do more with the Maestrale Class Frigate from Italy. It meets their needs for the immediate term. With proven capabilities.

It's just my sixth sense telling me that. The Filipino-Korean military procurements always looked odd. Like the FA-50 deal, First they cancelled, then they signed the deal. And FA-50 was not the best option for the Philippines in the first place, imo.

But the Filipino members here can give their perspective better.

lol, Koreans are so popular nowadays aren't they? I hope the love of K-pop and K-drama isn't influencing Ministry officials on foreign lands.

It is not. The FA-50 is an overrated trainer. The Filipinos should have gone with the F-16s. Period.

In Vietnam the military and national security is priority one.

VN way passed the 2% already.
There should be healthy increase otherwise what happens na that we end up ordering more hardware and we have lesser trained manpower or backup for the same. I have come across same in Indian defence forces recently but can't share.
